Looks good but make some remote terminals mounted somewhere so you can jump it. You'll be doing this alot when it's cold.

Very good point.
I just jumped my van from this Dodge rental car thing and it was great to have a nice clean easy to reach point to jump off of.

Seems to me that putting a sealed gel-cell like an Optima in a plastic box is somewhat like making a bulkhead for a...uh...well, lets just not go there. But the main reason for the plastic box as far as I know is to keep the acid under control when you go ass-over-teakettle.

I wouldn't mount it on the floorpan directly behind the seats. That's pretty thin and tends to get smashed in. I've teched a lot of cars and most of them have had obvious hits to that part - and I can't count the number of times I've had to hammer mine back down.

In your scheme, where you've got the battery actually mounted looks good, but consider what would happen if you took a pretty good hit to the floor there. The floor would buckle inward and your strap would loosen. Maybe not enough to knock it free, but enough that it might move around a bit. Maybe it'd be fine - maybe not. If I were you I'd look at putting it somewhere a little more protected (maybe up on that rear seat deck?) and use your current mount for the first aid kit.

I considered that when I moved mine. Seemed like tradeoff
between more weight over the driving wheels and more
nosediving when airborne. I guess in the grand scheme of
things one spends more time scrabbling for grip than one
does airborne though.

May have to do a rethink.

^^yeah, but if you have a 3000 lbs car and you're moving a 20lb battery...wtf is the difference? I guess you can use that argument for either decision, HA! mother effers!

I still need to get pics of mine in my backseat. ok bedtime!

Wasn't in the garage last night...but might be tonight in between Online boxing day shopping.

I'll get you a picture of what i've done.

In a nutshell...i did this

I have a very similar seat mount to yours, so i took a piece of 1/8" Plate and welded it to the seat tube, and bridged the gap to where you have yours mounted. I welded this plate about 1"-1.5" off the floor, so WHEN it gets pounded up, it doesn't hit the battery, plus the battery now has a 1/8" skidplate on it.

I put my box (from bass pro) the other way, and mounted the loops for the strap on the inside of the box. The bolts for the loops go through the box to hold it down, and then bolt to the plate. The strap holds the battery down, and only the battery. You pop the top on the box, battery sits there firmly strapped down, and the terminals really accessible on the top. Change the battery in 2 minutes.

For jumper cables. I assume that you'll be running a battery switch in the centre console someplace. What i did is go to Princess Auto. They sell the quick connect "forklift battery" connectors for 1AWG cable. I then bought a cheap ass pair of BIG GAUGE jumper cables, that came with a nice bag, and chopped one end of the cables off and installed the quick connect. The other side has normal aligators for the jumping vehicle.
