I've never bought a roll of AL foil tape. I figured the HVAC duct stuff might be cheaper then 50 bucks. Looking through that 3m link, it looks like there really is basically one style of foil tape. I'm not after FANCY, I AM after the RIGHT stuff, hence my question.

It's looking like foil tape or that big sheet stuff.... but I don't think I need enough to warrant the big sheet stuff.

why did Logic put his on the inside? I meant to ask that earlier. Ideas?

well, regular DUCT tape is VERY different....the 'foil' tape comes in different styles/thicknesses.

cheaper, but I doubt its 3mils thick like the 3M stuff:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200326746_200326746

http://www.amazon.com/JVCC-AF20-Aluminum-Foil-Tape/dp/B000QDEQQU/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_b

I like the 3M stuff cause its malleable and pretty strong. I also use it to cover all the holes in the chassis.

Pegasus has all kinds of heat barrier stuff:
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=HEATBARRIER

aluminum tape, kevlar blankets, aluminum cloth in sheets, tape rolls, and adhesive backed. They have some pimp looking gold reflective shit too if thats how you roll.

Well, are we talking the regular grey not shiny tape, or the aluminum duct tape? I thought the aluminum stuff was for HVAC too?

now you're confusing me.

you can use it ALL for HVAC if you want.

but duct tape is the usual, gray/black all-purpose, fix anything temporarily, multi-use tape. this has no thermal properties, is NOT what logic used above, and will not withstand engine bay temperatures.

aluminum tape also comes in different thicknesses, specs, etc.

the 3M '425' tape is what I've been using, and is probably close to, if not the same thing, that logic has in that photo above.

Oh, ok. I didnt think you could use the grey/black tape for HVAC. I thought thats why they made the aluminum tape.

You may be confused, but you answered my question! haha. Thanks for the help Jon, that actually was useful.

I still don't know why he has reflective tape on the inside of the vehicle. Doesn't do any good there.

I asked that too. I want it for the outside, where it makes sense. the mat would work inside, though, as it's an insulator, I would assume?

I've seen that on a few WRC car pics I've seen. I assume that there is maybe some expensive electronic stuff on the inside that's more sensitive. And it keeps it from getting destroyed from rock spray and snow maybe?
