Maybe fill a balloon or unused condom (Timm will have a bunch of unused ones) with paint. Insert a length of copper tubing. Slide it down inside the area and inflate it with an air compressor. Shouold blow up and mist paint everywhere.

Or Mr. Bean style. Paint can + Firecracker

Honestly I'd just hit what I would with a wirebursh/sandpaper and then spray paint it.

I plan to kill the car before it rusts anyways smiling smiley

LOL, from some seventh story balcony water-bombing experience in college, a condom would probably be a bad (or inspired) choice. They'll reliably hold more than five gallons of liquid -- with a big enough warehouse space you could paint a whole fleet of rally cars. I'd also suggest a bit of acetylene and a wick rather than compressed air...

Both sound fun!

Does anyone here have any experience with electrically charged painting? Did I dream that up?

I have a Graco self-generating electrostatic paint gun. They're really fiddly to get working right and as far as I'm concerned only suitable for painting BIG stuff like airplanes where the over-spray starts to be a large volume of paint.

On my car I would clean the surface and then hit it with a decent rattle can paint.

However if you really care there is a process. Clean the surfaces up and then etch or clean them with a chemical. For steel paint thinner would work. Then spray the area with zinc chromate or an epoxy paint. Then every year set of a Crossion X bomb in the area to coat it all with waxy stuff that will prevent rust in a car or keep your 41 year float plane flying even if you fly to salt water all the time.

See there is a misting bomb type product out there...

In the long run reality always wins.

If you don't plan on rust proofing the entire car and only those areas I'd buy the POR-15 "super starter kit" for 20 bones and call it a day...

+1 on the POR15 stuff. paint it o with foam brushes, you could also get some acid brushes and bend them so you can get it under the tubes. They have it in all colors. It goes directly on the bare metal. and adheres to rust and stops it chemically.

I did the whole engine compartment in my Volvo wagon with the low gloss black, and it came out great. Nothing can touch that stuff.

Zinc etch the bare metal first, not zinc primer (my bad), then KBS/POR-15 ... The zinc etching sprays on wait 10-20 minutes rinse off dry, then move on to coating with KBS/POR-15. Zinc is a rust prevention and surface texture prep for top coats. Zinc is highly recommended by both KBS and POR-15!

oh, if its bare, yeah. I thought you meant over rusty with the loose stuff knocked off. You have to etch it, or the por comes off in sheets. It's kinda cool looking, but a complete waste of product/time.

What is "complete waste of time" ?

If you dont etch the bare metal first when you por it, the por15 comes off in sheets, so you wasted your time by not preparing the surface properly.

Yes I agree. Let a lone the fact that zinc ads another layer of rust protection.
