They are just areas I can't reach fully. Which means I can't get a proper coat of paint down. They will rust, I just a) don't know if it will happen fast enough for it to be an issue (I'm new to bare metal and welding). And b) I figured that there may be some standard way of dealing with this.
I'm going to use a rust prevention coating in my rockers. Most likely Krown. I figured I'd just blast some into the rockers with some compressed air and be done with it. But, I'm just doing it for peace of mind to prevent rust around the stich welds. You're bare metal, thats's different. I noticed the brown (rusty) oxidized area around your welds on the pics you posted yesterday. I can see why you're leaning toward POR-15. I keep hearing stories both ways for POR-15. |

You're not going to be driving the car daily on the 401 in the winter, so whatever you do should be good enough. While I really like how you're getting all romantic with it, but the simple facts are you're likely going to be onto another car or being doing major surgery for one reason or another before serious interior corosion becomes a big issue. Especially if you coat it with just about anything. Keep in mind, you won't have any nasty interior carpet etc to lock moisture in. I think a LOT of interior rust happens from interior bits locking or trapping moisture in the interior of the car in one form or another. I hear the same thigns about POR 15 as well.. it's madening.. some say it's gods gift to rusty metal, others say it's a complete waste of time and money. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

My best suggestion for the areas you can't get at, is to drill access holes that will allow you to get in there. I like products like POR15 Metal Prep for nuking surface rust. Personally I wouldn't sweat over rinsing it.. the acid converts as it works, so as long as you don't go crazy with it you won't have a problem (I have not rinsed it on NSU sheet metal, it's still there and there is no way in hell the Subarus is thinner) If you've gotten all the existing rust, then just about any paint should do the trick for you IMO.
