You mean the black smoke right?

TDI and the exhaust is routed to exit through the side behind the door

Right. It's cheaper and offers more interior room in otherwise cramped vehicles. As I said, it took them long enough to realize the benefits.

No, it's not 100% perfect. It's an economy car, who cares?

"nope. i mean the wheel off the ground."

Standard VW rear suspension. Lack of travel.

Is the 9+ inches of STOCK rear wheel travel not enough?

I think you meant to say something else related to roll center because travel is definitely not the problem.

ohh my god. it's not the standard travel. it's dodge neon rear independent suspension on that TDI... i posted the picture to inspire posts like "maybe that neon stuff aint working" or "wow, that geometry is perfect."

whats the thoughts on how it's performing?

If it is really that huge of an issue, why didn't they change it at VW Motorsport is my question.

M-sport's R2 fiesta also keeps the twist beam rear suspension.

Pure curiosity on my part since I don't drive or own any front wheel drive vehicles. Is the tuning for rally similar to FWD road racing cars where you add on a crap-load of rear roll stiffness with a huge rear swaybar to keep the front tires working as best as possible and help the car rotate?

If so...it a true IRS any advantage when the rear wheels are going to be locked together with a big (please note that "big" is a relative term since I understand the weight transfer will be much smaller on gravel than tarmac) rear swaybar?

So does the Civic R3 from JAS, but they recently came up with an evolution for the tune of €17000, in where it basically splits the beam in the middle in order to have independent movement. Improvements on bumpy or broken terrain are reported to be astonishing and making the car competitive again against the Clio.

Is this is the same suspension that the Touring car guys designed to get and independent suspension while keeping the stock mount points?

No, just the opposite. On the Omnis I always cut the rear sway bar off the GLH rear beams. You want to keep all the wheels on the ground for better grip. Too stiff in the rear and the car will be much too loose. You can make the car rotate just fine by left foot braking.

But really, the rear wheels on a FWD car are just there to keep the rear bumper off the ground. JV and I proved many years ago that you don't even need both rear wheels to go down a rally stage quickly.

That, I do not know. I just know so, cause Renault Sport mentioned it when I was there for some tests back in December.
