California Rally Series rules are here: http://www.californiarallyseries.com under the "Rules" menu item.
A rotary is not allowed in CRS-2. It is allowed in P-Stock. Self-righteous douche canoe |

from what it looks like, i could run in production under CRS with that i have going on a bit easier than i could in the Pacific region. So i think that is the route im going to go with it for now just to get myself out and about. Plus the CRS events are just as far away as the Pacific so travel isnt a factor.

A bridge port can make about the same power and is a fuckton simpler to build, no real fabrication (or check-writing) required. I did my peripheral port for well under how much a Weber IDA carb goes for on eBay. I think I spent a little over a year fucking around with it in off-hours. Without a decent intake arrangement, though, it wasn't worth it. The current engine, on the other hand, drove into the shop on a Wednesday afternoon as a street port, and lit off as a bridge port that Friday. Correct. The OP posted a question about the CRS rules so I thought I'd clear that up. Group 2 == RA and is it's own weird Group-F-like structure. Modified 2 = NASA, 2liter base + modifiers CRS-2 = CRS, and is similar to NASA Production = RA, just about everything must be stock Stock = NASA, similar to RA's Production P-Stock (Perfomance-Stock) = CRS, predates either of the above, allows certain modifications. Designed to be easily enforceable. Self-righteous douche canoe |

The rough road thing is largely a myth too. Gorman can be rough if the rains hit at the wrong time, but it wasn't that way last year. Prescott's smooth, Seed9's smooth, NNR's smooth. On the flip side, I've seen some pretty rough roads in the PNW - Nahwatzel a few years ago, the road across from the OHV park that was used for Olympus in 2007, Taholah occasionally, one of the stages north of Vernonia that was used for OTR a couple of years back, etc. It just depends on what roads the organizers can get and the roads' maintenance regimen. Prescott and NNR both are events I want to do. The rest I have no real interest in traveling the same distance I could for Idaho, Olympus, Oregon Trails, Doo Wops, Wild West or Mt Hood. If I'm going to spend my money, cost is most important factor and since from here distance is never much different, I really focus on competition and type of roads. Honestly, and I tell everyone this, don't worry about a championship if you don't already live in an area that has an obvious championship. Just go where the best roads and competition are. If I lived in Mtn Home like Alex, I'd aim for Idaho, NNR, and Oregon Trails. Probably would be the most and best stage miles for the least amount of money you could spend. Not to say you shouldn't try to experience other rallies, but for now getting experience is key.
There are fast people in both regions! The PNW rallies are more of class equalizers for 2WD though than the SW stages. Look at the Camaro dude and how well he does in Desert Stages, but gets caught by not one, but two PNW people on the first stage at Idaho and decides to pack up and leave at the first service. Which is not to say I don't look forward to going head to head with people like Camaro guy, Bill Holmes, Michel, Hull, Brian Scott, Al K, Brian RallyBrick, and others from the SW. I chose to withdraw for Rally Colorado this year, car was ready, entry fee and all expenses were paid, but there was no real competition and the roads really aren't very challenging so I decided it wasn't worth spending $1000 to do it.

as things would have it, production just isnt going to work out for this car. Group 2 it is!
As for the events, i am really not looking to "win" since i dont have the funds to hit every event anyway but i am tempted to just run the southwest region events since there are fewer (more likely to complete a full season) but for at least the next year, ill just go to whatever is the cheapest. speaking of which, anyone know where i can find the entry fee information? did i not dig deep enough into the rally america site? It's too bad there's no good way to insert Excel tables.
Doo Wops Olympus Oregon Trail Mt Trials Wild West Mt Hood $399.00 $900.00 $650.00 $425.00 $500.00 $445.00 Idaho Gorman Prescott $650.00 $700.00 $700.00 Idaho and Gorman were both estimated. With the exception of Gorman, these are the only west coast events I'd consider doing (well, there are other good ones in Canada too), so are the only ones I have any data on. Grant Hughes |

Entry fees are set by the event organizer not RA or NRS. They vary with road use fees and other costs. As with most things in life the cheapest isn't always the best bargain. Most regionals will run between $4-600 BUT ..some will be one day and others 2 day events.
