You might consider going through and weeding out the 5+ extra shots of the same thing. Just because the camera is 2 feet higher doesnt mean its not still a picture of the front grill....

There were a few exterior shots that did that.

Damn. Seriously, why would you even bother with AWD when cool shit like this is out there.
I'd love to go Duratec and Group 2 in a Merkur.

Nice car! Seems pretty basic though. Looks to be built with over the counter parts bolted into place.

With the exchange rate the way it is today, one of these could be replicated here for a reasonable price.

Sure, for some definition of "reasonable".

Exchange rates ain't going to make some of those parts cheap. Less painful, but $15k instead of $20k for a trans is still kinda painful. I also don't want to think about how much that steering column is worth, although if someone makes a Little Black Box to control the electric steering coming through on a lot of newer cars, this would almost be junkyardable.

And then there's trying to FIND a MkII on this continent. I'd start looking into 240s too, since they're already here.

Hehe - my thought exactly. Dunno about that engine - is 2.4 Duratec something readily available on your side of the pond?
Lots of the UK MK II's run totally specialised 2.4 or 2.5's I4. Almost one-off. Capable of +300 horsies. Expensive stuff for sure...

What's so special about the column?
Anyway - with regards to the never electrically assisted columns, then that has been done quite a few times. Apparently not too complicated. Opel Corsa/Vauxhall Nova columns have been grafted in to Mk I and Mk II Golf's several times in the UK.
... and those columns are fairly cheap on fleaBay.

2.4 is not a factory size. Basically, every Ford product from about 2003-on that had a four cylinder, as well as many, many Mazdas, used a 2.0, 2.3, or 2.5l Duratec. They are proving to be indestructible, meaning cheap at junkyards since there is no demand for them. Not like the GM Ecotec which is having some serious timing chain tensioner issues...

Electric assist. You can see the motor on the right side.

Again, essentially all small- and mid-size General Motors cars here from 2007 or so on have electric assist on the column. A lot of other makes are using a motor on the rack, which makes life easier on the steering U-joints. GM had problems with steering shafts even before they decided to move the assist to the column...
