How to assemble a motor without pistons or main caps and bolts..
August 11, 2010 01:10AM
Anybody have any tricks for mounting rings onto pistons that don't exist?
And i was also wonder if just putting strips of duct tape will keep the crank n this 2 point Slow thing that has been living downstairs.
Do VW motors usually use pistons?
Do they use main caps?
Why doesn't this one have pistons or main caps???

That's what I was thinking, but I'll bet someone dropped off a project with 1/2 the parts.

Daaaaaayum, mang!
Why would somebody leave a block laying around without the main caps and bolts back where they belong?
That's crazy talk!
I say VW didn't use any main caps or bolts.... days what I's sez!

I am puzzled still however how these rings I have just a little to the left are supposed to seal and for that matter bounce up and down without pistons, and rods too....

I think there some controversial, politically charged answer, but it could be that somebody just forgot shit, not when they were reminded 2-4 times...

That will learn you not to work on archaic architecture engines that still use main caps instead of a proper stressed sump smiling smiley You know like a motorcycle engine...

Can't fool me!
Those blocks have main caps integrated as part of the main girdle or other half, them's caps all the same and more importantly those motors have rods and pistons, I have a block, rings, and rod and main bearings......

Youse guys splain how I should keep the crank in this VW thing and also how to make the rings seal without pistons...

Jb Weld, obviously.

It's a VW, so they've probalby already let most of the smoke out of the electrical system, so it's not going to run anyways.

He did get a much better car: a 1973 Saab 96 and a nice spec 11.3, big valve (42mm in/36mm ex vs VW current 9, sumpin, 39/32 or some crap) V4 which makes more torque, revs harder and higher and is tons more fun

You clearly don't realize that this is going to be a magical engine!

Just have them cut the deck and run the ball hone down the holes.

I had to work the day I was scheduled to fly out. I barely made it to the airport in time. I'll be back in a month or so.
