Well whatever the piston sizes are you're going to figure out a way to redude rear torque. 5/8 front and 13/16 rear with stock pads might work. If its still too much rear, then just add a prop valve to the rear. Its not ideal but oh well. Do you HAVE to run the same calipers in the rear? Why not do John's Vulva rear calipers. Much better setup.

why are you stuck with those rotors? just drill new holes! unless it's rotor offset, in which case, make new bracketry!

Yeah they not sexy but we've used them on a dozen different cars and the balance is just about perfect with any realistically sized fronts. And you can get good pads for the Vulva rear.

because when i had my axle machined and redrilled they turned the center to fit. its not that i can't go to other rotors. its more about the $$$$ to redo everything i have done.

no i don't HAVE to run the same calipers. all of this came about after talking to john. it started with him saying to find a rotor with a decent hat to it, um ok, the fronts have a good hat, i'll use those, then he said find something with a decent size bore to have a good balance. sadly i have a crap load of random calipers laying around from different cars through out the years. most seemed to be tiny little rear brakes with small bores and then i started laying the front calipers next to the whole thing. it just fit so well i went with it.

my problem now as it sits right now is i can't use the volvo caliper because i have a vented rotor. i could then make the rear volvo rotors work, but that would then required some more machining to get the axles right. which isn't bad, but the chances of getting those damn axle bearings off with out effing them up so i can get it in a lathe is the part that scares me a little bit. i'm sorry but those damn bearings were not cheap.

so think vented rotor caliper for me.

ok so john, if i ditch the mazda rotor and caliper in favor of volvo rotor and caliper, what do you think the chances are of making the axle fit the rotor with out removing the bearing. could you still turn it down with the bearing on it.

i'm just really not wanting to replace those again. and i haven't found a way of pulling them with out destroying them.

you say prop valve, are you still taking in to consideration im running a balance bar. or am i giving them to much credit on adjusting front/rear bias.

oh and one last thing and i swear i'll shut up. smiling smiley

what say i forgo manual brakes and stick with power brakes. i mean hell tons of those plowing through the woods with no problems. any thoughts on size for mc? the stock 2nd gens were 7/8" but i figure sticking with the big calipers on the rear would need some more fluid. now shockingly subaru power boosters bolt in no problems and those can be had with 1" and 1 1/16" mc.

move the push point up to keep the pressure about the same, get a prop valve that will adjust pretty damn low (which i have found already) and call it good. not perfect, but so far there is no perfect answer. its just another answer.

Ooooooooor what about the metric gm caliper. dirt cheap, easy to find, if i remember right the bores 2.5". wilwood also makes a 2" version. thank you circle track racing for making stuff available for a reasonable price.

just more thinking out loud. i know those would work with with my vented rotor and to damn easy to mount. no caliper bracket, just 2 mounting pins
