Even a statement on letterhead confirming the year built will be fine. Doesn't need to be notarized, certified or gold plated.

Screw that! Do the V and also bend them up! Check out the pics of my Impreza in the for sale section for what I consider to be the best cage design with the current rule set. Lets intersecting bars, most room in passenger area, and full compliant.
For you real nerds, my cage is: (google FIA 253 for article. These are diagram references):
253-3
+253-7
+253-9 with addition of a lower sill bar. Kinda like 253-11 with a
full X in the door. 3 continuous door bars.
+253-14
+253-15
+253-17
+253-22
(Note 14 and 22 are only allowed when used together. You
are able to bend them slightly upward and get even more head room than
the other options.)
+253-25 to strut towers.
+253-29
The a-pillar reinforcement is bent outward in accordance with
8.3.2.2.2 to give room for hands to steering wheel.
All bars are constructed from 1.75 X 0.095 DOM. The X in door and the
a-pillar reinforcement at 1.5 X 0.095.
The 253-17 and one of the 253-25 bars are in 1", which is allowed by 8.3.2.2 in the FIA rules.
