Well, the cats outta the bag now. I'm in the process of aquiring parts for the swap. So far I've got a VVT head from a MZR, 2.3 block, and a 5R55E trans from a ranger. The plan goes as such; I'm looking for a more broad torque band (more broad than my 8v mill that makes 260+RW FT/Lbs from 4700-6000rpm) I'm also looking to shave weight off the front of my car, as well as pick up some consistency in the 1/4 mile once I actually get my car to the track. The shop I work for makes a paddle shifter setup with a gear display, as well as a programmable TCU for the 5R55 which makes me non hesitant to have an auto behind the Duratec. I'll probably switch from my 60-1 hybrid to an extended tip BorgWarner unit as well to help with the torque curve/plateau. Expected completion time is December. Shooting for low 12's on street tires.. and maybe, just maybe, I'll take it out in the dirt once I get my front coilovers finished (no thanks to Kraplhenke) Currently a stroked 2.5 mill occupies the engine bay, built up with 8.2:1 JE pistons and Eagle H-beams, This motor will probably be for sale soon if anyones interested. I'll probably sell it with the 46/40 530 head and Enem C2 turbo cam.

Hey John! Know where I can get my hands on a Ranger crankshaft and oil pan? I've got a few leads out here. Already have the head, just needs cleaning up. Should start test fitting this week and making mounts.. maybe I should do something similar to Kevvie for mounting the block?
Hahahaha.. you guys are still talking about that girl? When I build the Mazda engine I'll see what I can do. It won't be her though.. Paddle shifters.. TCM.. I also use the touch screen Dash/Logger Theres no way I'd put a lima block in my car hahaha.. I'm trying to shave weight and get better low rpm breathing via 16v and VVT. Most of the ford guys go to Volvo 16v cylinder heads when building lima blocks dont they? not sure if your tranny is something you wanted or something you are stuck with, but i ran across these guys awhile back. they make a t5 to duratec bell housing.

This company sells paddle shift for a manual transmission including the T5 and Tremec.

Yeah, I'd already reasearched the T-5 option since I have a couple spares laying around, but the fact is, I'm looking for consistent runs down the drag strip. The manual gig is hard on drive line parts. With an auto, I have the option of cutting power during shifts to keep my giant ass turbo spooled up and reduce the clutch engagement shock that comes with a manual. So yes, it was my choice to have an automatic. Most of what our company deals with is automatics. We make the TCM's for the Hummer military spec vehicles and TCI. So why not experiment a little with autos? What do I have to lose? ..A few tenths

![]() ![]() Got a ranger oil pan and did some test fitting, seems like it'll fit with very little massaging of metal. Tomorrow I'll make templates for mounts and hopefully get them fabbed up. One of my friends just finished this swap in his 940 in fact. 2.5L redblock with the 16V head, not exactly what you asked but it is common enough in the Volvo and 2.3 ford community. A copy of his dynosheet for giggles- ![]() Seems the 16V Volvo head is really limited by stock cams, not sure what you are dealing with the MZR. |
