Burly. Understatement!
Where'd those come from and what're they for? What're they going to use for a ball joint.
That's pretty much just what I had in mind.
This was an early drawing from last February, with a few things I didn't like so since been revised. That was using mostly off the shelf parts, tubing sized so that ID is ready to be tapped rather than needed additional weld in components. (kinda like Eric did on his in this pic: http://nocoastmotorsports.net/Build/Multilink/Mazda3071.jpg )

The ball joint is fron a 99 Honda Accord, it it standard 7 Degree taper, and about .200 inch larger shaft than the Merkur joint. All the circle track outfits sell a 7 degree ball joint reamer, and the joints are retained by a snap ring. It takes 5 minutes to ream the knuckle to accept the joint, and the ball joints are $9 each my cost!

John and I machined the holders for the Ball Joints out of DOM tubing, and Derek Nelson is welding them together. I will have 2 complete sets for less than $200.

1 inch heim joints, 4130 Cro-Mo tubing, Cro-Mo Clevis joints.

Sean.
Why'd you bring the compression struts attachment point further toward the center of the TCA?
Planning any gussetting around the ball joint holder? Any close up pics of it?

if you imagine the comp strut passing all the way through the arm, it is pretty close to the same position as stock.the attachment point is where it is for tire clearance. mocked up a straight one under the car in the stock location (passed a piece of 1.125 tubing through the stock arm) and the tire hit it before full lock.

as far as gusseting, I don't think there is a need. the tubing is .120 wall cro-mo, and the ball joint holder is thicker than that. Plus, it does need somewhere to bend on a large impact.

the stock arm bent back outboard of the swaybar, and it bent the swaybar out like 4 inches.

Since it is non-handed you could carry one in the car. 5 minutes to change it on the side of the road. I think it would bend before the comp strut.

Well, when it comes time to make spacers for the rod ends and the brackets for the body make extras for me. Or are you going off the shelf and just going to shave them to fit?
What size rod ends did you use? Where'd you find that clevis?
I can send you the comp brake bracket as an example if you want theirs to copy. It'd be easily reproduced though and anything you come up with is better.
I bet having a pair of these in my hands would really motivate me to get the car back together. Hope to have the Impreza running-ish by the end of tomorrow so I can finish the underbelly and engine bay this month and start reassembly.

I dont know if you ever saw pics of my rear skid plate mount, but I welded a section of 1" square tube vertically to the frame rail 1/2 way between the front cross member and the sway bar mount, then ran another piece of 1" tube horizontally that bolts to the cross member, runs back to almost touch the sway bar mount, and it bolts to the vertical tube for support. Well, we are going to plate the area where the sway used to mount, and tie in that for/aft piece of 1" tube, and make the pocket right there at the junction, essentially connecting the subframe to the frame rail where it rises from under the car. The junction at the crossmember will still bolt for removal of the crossmember.

found a pic. you can just barely see the vertical piece as I painted it black.

here is another

Stayed after work and Derek came down to fab up the comp strut mounts, make sure all the angles were going to work ect before final welding of all the parts. We had to increase the ball joint angle from 15 degrees to 20 degrees so that it would not bind at full droop. We also moved the "wings" forward to reduce the amount of arm in front of the junction.

Ended up making the comp strut brackets bolt into the body instead of welding, but I am going to tie them into my skid plate mount.

For the next set I need to make the Ball Joint holders a bit thicker, but ll in all it turned out very good. Better than I could have done for sure.
