Thinking about using some Audi 80 outer joints with the bolt through setup versus the factory setup which we broke....I'm fairly certain they are a different spline though:

I figure I'll try a cheap alternative if I can get the machine work done for a reasonable price, then if those don't work I'll find something else...

I'm going to order up one of the audi 80 outers and try up some different combos at fine tuning, see what I can do....I have nice 4x100 wheels finally and don't really want to swap to the 5-lug pattern if I don't have to....

Audi hubs are different splines, in and out, and different bearing too IIRC.
I did some research on it after seeing Idoraps pictures, and I couldn't figure out how to make the ends meet.

I ended up converting to VR6 stuff. Got new hubs, welded 4 of the 5 holes, and boring 3 new ones to retain 4x100.
The stub that goes through is 4 mm thicker - so far no problems, but it's not that long ago that I did the upgrade.

Yeah, I'd like to get involved with something proven AND cost effective...if I need to go with a full aftermarket shaft/CV combo I'll do it. There hasn't been a lot of playing in this department, at least not a lot of playing and sharing.

Tommmy Tommy To-may, I stink weeze should look at A) the hubs the Audi outer plugs into, specifically the OD of the hub where it pokes into the bearing and then
cool smiley the OD of the bearing

Weeze gotta do a 'clean sheet of paper "compare and contrast" and then think.

Might want to give The Gear Works a call http://www.thegearworks.com/ , they can do internal and external splines. I had them make me some axles from 300m a while ago, cost wasnt so bad.

We worked on Scott Fullers Group A Golfs, crawled around checked those things out. Almost everything was off the vw/audi parts shelf, CV's were all Audi.

Well somebody needs to gather the parts and come over to the Ford Asylum and do some measuring and head scratching..

Who can 'aquire' some parts that could be returned if need be?
Sean M can maybe....

Yep they're right down the street about a mile and a half, and I've had them do some stuff in the past, but they have to have the specific broach and the may---or may not...

if the stub for the strong shaft has a larger OD, it could easily be turned down.

What about heat treating all the axle parts? Derik is having some knuckles done soon, and they have a minimum weight charge, it is stupid cheap, works out to like $1.00 a lb or something. That could be a first step.

Also, avoid new replacement axles and stick with Old stock axles. All the new ones may have questionable metalurgy, being as they are only like $70 new... How do they do that!

Maybe you will be lucky and find a bearing that will fit the race of the golf and the hub of the Audi. Probably to easy for that to happen!
