You know, I had a rebuttal written here. But you know what? I'm not going to post it. I don't need to continue this pointless efight. Simpleminded or not, I recognize that it's really of no use to me to waste my time validating what I do to you.

And again, I've corresponded with Greg for nearly 9 years, he knows, god I hope he knows, I'm joking---- As I said, and if you're going to go tio the trouble to complain, then at least look, look at Gene mc Collough's ad for tralier wheels---The response to Greg was in that same spirtit :corny humor. gene's response was good, everybody had a small little chuckle---and that's how you get thru the frustrating shit like the gawddam car ya want to sell having an annoying leak.....all of us having a little fun, then the crybaby comes along...

This is simple.
Tell him the fuel tank leaks a bit. Don't be negotiable on price. Let him fix it.
Tell him you'd fix it, but the price will go up.
$1700 for a turbo Legacy with a few problems is a fair price.

it only leaks when the tank is full and only drips to ground when the car is parked on incline with the rear lower than the front.

Sounds just like my Starlet. Which is now dry since it evaporated out as it sat in the same spot for the last 4 summer months. Fuck you atmosphere!

Seriously, tell the buyer about it and that it's probably an easy fix, but one you are not going to do for them and that it's priced accordingly.

not going to mess with cutting the floor open. not enough room would be gained for the damage done.

now i just need the damn thing gone to make room (and money) for the impreza a friend and i bought to build into a toy.

thanks for the help and the entertainment.

john, i did some research and i have discovered that your duck tape/fiberglass plan is a load of crap. everybody knows that the proper way to fix a gas tank leak is a 62/38 mix of grape hubba bubba bubble gum and original flavor big league chew. years of scooby doo and speed buggy cartoon watching backs up my solution.

Just stuff an egg in it. It works for radiators - should work for gas tanks.

You and your half boiled ideas!
But I think he should peel the egg first.

But I'm sure some know-it-all will say raw is better.

Whatever there ought to be a million or two eggs available for free just now!

if its the tank, depending upon the leak, there is a epoxy you can buy to fix it. i don't recall what it is called but you can get it from napa and places.

just ask grant how well it works after you drill a hole in your fuel tank on when full.

before cutting, how about taking a vacuum cleaner and getting as much silt off as you can, a hose to wash off as much as you can, then some compressed air to dry it?

Then, start the car up and see if it's coming out of one of the lines. If not, then have someone pour fuel in the filler neck while you watch to see where it's coming from.

From there, you can figure out which 5-dollar part you need, without chopping things up.

Does require a second person, though. Maybe even a flashlight and one of those little mirrors that you can angle around.

On my volvo, what appeared to be a leak on top of the fuel tank turned out to be a pin-hole in the short hose from the secondary pump to the filter. The pin-hole was angled up so that the fuel fell on top of the tank, and dripped down and off of the seam.

Once that was fixed, it looked the fuel sender gasket had a major leak. Turned out to be the high-pressure rubber hose out of the tank leaking, and following the angle of the pipe back to the sender.
