I can't get the name off the top of my head of the bloodsucking lawyer, but I did just start reading Hell's Angels just yesterday.

I'll post some pics later. We've done full FEA or whatever that shit is called and each stand should have held 5-10K if I recall.

Holy shit man, that's a long time ago!
Interesting book, but I prefer and love his later writing.

He was a good influence on me.

We still are arguing about pins. The pair of stands we build a while back got bent, one of them actually sheared and broke. It used 3/4" which I think is fine. Mark thinks we need to go 7/8" but that requires larger sockets and two weird sizes and thus more expensive.
I'm not sure how my pins broke. Dave Kern was borrowing them at the time. Probably ran over them with the Duramax. The front of the Merkur sat for weeks at a time on those stands and pretty sure it's heavier than the front of an Evo. Maybe.

Are you ready to litigate???!!!
(Bonus points for know just which Samoan lawyer in the employ of which former Colorado resident said that)

What broke? Where?

We can't stop here, this is bat country!

And isn't it Alberto Acosta or something like that? I Fear and Loathe the possibility of an incorrect answer and am afraid I might be Hunted down with a Thompson submachine gun.

Yeah when the movie came out Dave Clark called and said "Of all the people in the world who needs to see this, you need to see it!!"

He'd co-driven for me a number of times and his old housemate Jamie, too and it seems I told them some memorable stories on transits---and stages.....
Ahhhh youth, how I remember my early 40s!!

How can 'shrooms be classified as illegal??

On the small imported horizontal bandsaws both halves of the holding clamp can be removed leaving a large flat surface to clamp jigs to. A piece of angle iron and some C clamps will give you ability to cut steeper angles. I used some MDF and screws to make a jig to hold square tubing for a compound angle. You're limited by the space between the blade guides. It's much easier to handle long pieces with a horizontal saw. Go with a bimetal blade. My Taiwanese model has seen use for 25 years. My next power washer will be an industrial grade electric.

Thinking the slightly bent pin stand probably came at the hand of a harbor freight lightweight jack that didn't release, then after another half twist it went down too fast. If I'd run it over with the duramax, I think I'd just have a flat tire. LOL

Hey John. Did you take any pics of the jig?

no, sorry...I did it in my brothers garage, and he's a custom furniture designer, so he fabbed something up real rough out of a few pieces of wood and then we removed the clamping pieces that came with it (like Jim T just mentioned) and clamped down our little makeshift jig.

use lots of WD-40 as cutting oil.

I'm trying to remember the specs I used for pins/receivers...I'm pretty sure I used .75" solid round bar and the pin receivers were 1" dia x .12" wall...which made for a .76" hole for the pins. I know one of them will hold up the front end of the subaru with weight to spare.

with all 4 up (they're 24" high) I can rock the subaru back and fourth pretty good and they're solid. the triangular jacks are 1.25" diameter, and I forget the wall thickness. If you want pics of what I did/design, let me know and I'll find them and post them up again. I can't seem to find them on my imageshack.com account.

After you've paid for a few worn out blades, you might want to try a soluable oil intended for cutting...

But hey, you're rolling in cash so wear out blades all you want.thumbs up smiley

Went and checked one out last night at Harbor Freight. Nice thing about doing it there was went and found a jack handle that was around 1.25 diameter to stick into it. Then a tape measure to measure the max cutting width and width of blade guides so I could calculate the maximum angle I could get.
I also grabbed out some chalk (it's this white hard stuff that you can use to draw on things, like a hard version of a dry erase marker) and drew out the cutting room on the ground and set the stand on it. That one would not be able to replicate the angle that we had on that pair.

Anyhow, horizontal it is for what we need.

I'd probably spend more on the oil than the blades!! my current blade has lasted over a year...not really concerned with the consumable costs of my bandsaw right now when I'm looking down the barrel of a new tranny!! thumbs up smiley backatchya smileys with beer

This one seems quite nice and capable.

This also looks nice.

Both of those are around 50% of retail which should mean very little loss of investment if I have to resell them.

For cutting tubing I would go with a low RPM chop saw with a carbide blade. I can cut 2 to 3 complete roll cages on 1 blade and you can cut at least 10 to 1 over a ban saw. and its smaller easy to store away. I almost never use my horizontal ban saw any more. No crooked cuts like a cheap ban saw. Mine is a Mikita I paid in the $250.00 range a few years back Im sure there cheaper now.

Try to cut a 70 degree angle with your chop saw. Not doable.
I only have to replace blades on my chop saw after other people use it. I swear the current wheel probably only made like 5-10 cuts on exhaust tubing and it's nearly trashed due to misuse by someone else. I don't know that I even used it once.
