Motor's out. What a mess. Grant's right.. Don't trust the wiring or the plastic fuel lines!

Hmmm, with the motor out I could see the freeze plugs were real rusty. Stuck my finger through one under the exhaust mani. Popped them all. There is a rusty scaly crud in the block that comes up nearly to the bottom of the freeze plugs. Not sure it's even possible to get this thing truely clean.

Jeeebus!
I have lots of blocks. But a good clean out is essential.
Where ever it hain't seriously cold, iron block/iron head things look like that. GAG!

We'll see, hopefully it's salvageable.. JV, do you still have any of the sweet engine mounts? Mine are shady, and it might be a good time to weld in the empty engine bay. Sump guard mounts?

Jason the safe way to do the engine mounts is with at least a block and trans in position on stock mounts,
Then support with blocks/jack/coconuts/dessicated skulls the engine and remove one side cousion and arm, both the Soooper Bitchin mount on, THEN assemble the sheetmetal parts and tack the box thing together.

Then you can take the box out and weld 'er up on the bench, put it back in and zap it in.
Then repeat on the other side.
I'll shows ya.

Got a plastic barrel large enough to submerge the block in?

You can do a slo mo tank job at home, as long as you neutralise the acid.

Ahh, ok... slightly more to it than I'd imagined, but it would be super easy to throw the block back in. There's nothing attatched to it anymore! I'll go look for piccies of your mounts.. big step up over other solid type mounts?

Yes, the engine will now attach to the frame rails, not the subframe. changing the subframe would only take minutes. This is something I want to do to my car this winter

Yea, I checked out pix on JV's website. Looks like a nice way to improve servicibility. I'm pretty well comitted to tearing this thing down to a bare shell, so I think it makes a lot of sense to do all these kinds of things while it's emptyish. I could do these mounts now before pulling the tranny or later when it's all ready to put back together again.

Sean/JVL. I'll be flying out of SEATAC next Sunday. If you're around I'll stop in the skunk works 12:30ish? I'll be returning Sat Dec 4th at around noon. Could stop in then and grab parts etc?

Grant... I'm coming to Denver for a few days... love to check out the progress and say hi again!

What do you guys do with the interior parts? I'd love to not fill the landfill with seats, but who wants 23 year old xratty interior parts?

JV, seat is grey cloth. Fairly clean, but nothing special. Let me know and I'll drag it down with me on Sunday. Need the back or drivers side?

Cool Grant. I'm leaving Denver Saturday 4th right now, so let's try to hook up Friday afternoon. Can't believe it's been a year since I was there last... what a slacker I've been (actually really busy, just not in the garage)!
