XR4TI a slow build!

Re: XRATTY build

Long talk with JVL yesterday.. Lots of fun and good discussions (not all car related!). Came away with some sloped bitchin front brakes, and a cossie turbine housing!
Popped the head and pan off my nasty motor. As bad as the cooling system looks the oil side looks really nice. Pistons and valves/chambers are clean and lots of crosshatch is visible. Head is obviously brand new with roller cam etc. Heard its not as hot a cam as the stocker, but that's what is in there. Huh. Seems to me a hot tank and new seals, everything else should work.

Where do you turbo ford guys find the best deal on engine rebuild bits? Big bits are ok, but seals, rings, bearings, timing, water pump type stuff.

Got everything for my last 2 builds at my local carquest.

I don't mind paying a bit more for the face time, then when you need to dig through the catalog to find a suitable replacement tie rod end you can.

Engine management. Realistically sticking with what I've got or going LA3+big VAM... however, anybody have info on a Megasquirt type thing that doesn't require a computer/tuning genius to get it running right?

If you do anything stand alone I'd look into the Wilson Racing stuff. That's what I had bought before trading up to one of the AEM Stinger 2 setups that was really a steal as it came with a brand new engine harness to go with it.

La big vam is more than enough for an XR. Easily make 250 torques, 200+ HP

Can't imagine needing more in a RWD car.

Alrighty! Well, you got my moolah... I'll pm you my address. Let me know as soon as you're cranking out more stuff. I need everything you make except for the intercooler/radiator stuff and the supra mount which I already have. Def the beam reinforcement, T5 mount, even things like cage 'tacos' if you can crank those out easy I'm in for.
Thanks William!

hey guys not to whore my self out on Jason's build.
but I hope to do a lot of trick work for him.

I have my car in the shop now and its stitched up
and ready for a cage I have enough material to put
some kits together. I can do the 9 yards taco's and
tubing from rear to front strut towers.

I have alt brackets, and ps brackets, tranny mounts,
dual master box's, strut tower bracing, anything,
winter has been really slow and work short so if
there's anything you have been thinking about
getting it would be greatly appreciated.

I have to thank jvl a lot of the parts are his brain
storming and ideas. so you can order from him or
me for fabed stuff and I will make sure it get done
in 5 business days of an order unless its square
beam or other large project.

Whore away William! I'm in for trick parts esp when they are from a local guy that needs the work and also happen to be a great cost and value.

Alt bracket looks great! If you're able to build up nice tight cage kits off your car then I'm in right away... You'll have the $$ in hand. Just mark the bits with sharpie so I know which goes where etc, I'll get down there and pick it up, and weld it in myself.

I'm interested in the beam now that it appears to be done. If it is done then let's get some cost info out there so guys can budget for it. Good to hear that it requires at least some of the Supra diff kit that I already bought!

PM me your address and the cost of the manifold stuff and T5 mount and I'll get you the money.

So what's the timeline on rear brakes. Same guy that set up Grants will do a nice setup for around $900. 11" rotors, Superlites, brackets and hoses. I'd prefer to stick with you if'n you'll have sumpin ready soonish.
JV, what's the bottom line on beams.. Cost, time to build one for me etc. I am trying to decide between a TSS reinforcing kit or a Square Beam!

Motor is ready to put back together. Got lots of boxes: Altenator mount, new ECM and big VAM, rebuild kit, cossie housing and lots more!
