Makes sense, Pete; bending snouts and crap was a factor I hadn't though about. I was intending to go 5x4.5" and fab a subframe anyway instead of using the stock 2nd gen one so... best of both works possibly? Pretty sure I know you from the '7 forums too; Kenku over there.

John, I'm sorry to hear about the medical stuff. I probably will be contacting you when I'm further down the road on this thing; I've seen pictures of the work you do and it seems about perfect. I have some drawings and some cut apart B46s that was starting to work towards the same thing you're doing (albeit for road course work) but I've no idea where to start for rally stuff and having a starting point from someone who does would be well worth the cost of admission.

... once I have the scratch for it and am a bit farther along. Funny how much time these things take to build.

You should. 25 years ago i had friends in their RX2s, 3s and 7s, shearing off front spnidles. Somehow i stink that people haven't been buying new spindles...
It's a very weak point in everything old school, and no that I can make such nice suspension that lets you wham into stuff so much faster, and therefore HARDER, those ancient spindles are all suspect.

Good to know in advance! I full well expected that the idea of going on dirt would end up being a whole new sorta education on the weak points of the RX-7... nice to get that particular one out of the way without pranging a car.

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and do a Toyota rearend if I can get car-sized axles cheap. I've twisted a few rearends and my latest find is squishing the hole where the dropout plugs in. It's not flat anymore...

Mind you, all this weakness-finding is at rallycross, not stage rally...
