No prob. FYI, that Sparco kill switch is a piece of shit. It's supposed to have "alternator protection" - which means that when the switch is in the "kill" position, that the alternator lead goes to ground through a small resistor- This keeps the alternator from getting fried. On this switch, there's a spot in the middle between "run" and "kill" where the battery is not disconnected AND that alternator line is connected through that resistor. So, if someone accidentally bumps the kill switch a bit (it's easy to do on ours- not in the best place), then you might burn the car down. One of my crew guys did this during a rallycross once. Smoke and hot stuff everywhere. Not good. I've since removed the grounding line (so foregoing the alternator protection)... Doug |

Where can we source the push button style breakers. I saw that Eric Wages had them and to me they make a lot of sense!

Look for aircraft breaker panels on eBay. Lots of cool shit there.
If you want to keep your alternator from frying from a kill switch, instead of buying a fancy switch, buy a cheap switch and spend the money (what, $5-10 in cable) to run the alternator direct to the battery. That way there is NO WAY the alternator can keep the car running batteryless if you flip the switch. And it's simple. Anyone wanting to use circuit breakers in place of flat fuses have a look.
Any industrial electrical supply house can get them, not too crazy priced either. Phoenix makes tons of great stuff! Phoenix Circuit Breakers Power means nothing if you cannot control it! |

I'm in the process of rewiring my XR, and have been using Waytek to source my components. They will send a free catalog, and seem to have competitive prices. I got push button breakers for less than $2 each, and a DPDT kill switch for less than $25.
I'm not plugging these guys because I get a kickback, but becuase there is a lot of markup out there and these guys have good selection and pricing. Worth looking at. Nicholas and his '86 XR4Ti |

Went for it, didn't get it. Quit the high paying sales job to return to cooking and get time to reevaluate. I'm in job search mode now, with a couple of decent options in the works. Relocation is an option, but i can't convince the wife to move out to your neck of the woods like I'd like to, something about staying within a days drive of family. So, it looks like northern Michigan as a target area. It's closer to the rallies we have here, anyway.
I'll call within a few days. We need to talk diff kit and money things. Nicholas and his '86 XR4Ti |

Aircraft are full of cool shit, I'm always looking at little details in them. Just 2 days ago I was asking my mechanics all about the landing lights. They seemed like possible great candidates for a rally car. When stuff is designed (and even better certified) to work in aircraft or a legit Mil-Spec, you know it's tough and/or reliable. I think you could dangle a 4-cylinder engine from a large mil-spec harness. Yeah, I was just reading Anders' connector post. |
