Hey Mark, good to know!

It's a 1979 210, but has a 200sx front subframe/lateral links, a KA24E, and a Tercel rack. I'm in the process of swapping the front suspension for 240sx stuff because it's more user friendly as far as suspension goes, and as an added bonus, the front brakes are slightly bigger and aggressive pads are easier to find.

At any rate. Yeah, I found out from it's prior owner that it's no-bueno, at least in its current setup, to use a 240sx steering rack; causes loads of bumpsteer. Now, with this different setup, we'll see. But, as it stands right now, it looks like a quickener is the way to be.

Sounds to me like you should be using a 240SX steering rack, 240SX subframe, 240SX control arms, 240SX strus and the 240SX engine you already have. Man, that would make things easy! No bump steer that way, either. At least not any more than a 240SX....

By the way, S14 240SX is the wise move for a rally car. Bigger bearings, bigger ball joints, bigger bolts...

Okay, well, even though I was warned against it from the cars previous owner, I picked up a 240sx rack for $30 from the local salvage yard. I figure, since I'm putting the 240sx S13 suspension, which of course includes knuckle, brakes, etc, it might widen the car just slightly enough to make the bad bump steer from it's previous attempt go away. Plus, I have adjustable control arms, and Mr. Previous Owner didn't, so that could be of benefit as well.

And, of course, $30 is a whole lot less than $150 for the quickener, AND, if this doesn't work out, it's just wam-bam, old rack back in, back to normal. Hey-o!

If nothing else, it will be a great learning experience when I de-PS the rack! (Thanks again for the link to some instructions.)

Sorry to keep resurrecting this old thread, but as an update, I did that PS-to-manual steering rack conversion on the 240 rack I picked up. Super easy! It took like two hours. The game isn't over, I still have to make sure it fits with no bump steer, then tune it to be just snug enough, but at least step one is complete.
