Run away or tough enough?

Does it have a AL shaft or steel?

Hmmm that never occurred to me. It's supposedly a hair over 2lb, if that's any indication.

The ones like this I have seen made by Pro-lite (they look identical) have steel shafts.

Yeah thats what I have and it looks exactly the same.

That's a private-label version of the original 'Coleman' style quickener (Pro-Lite). Either that or a knock-off. Speedway Motors, Smiley's, and AFCO all have their own version too. They just change the engraving and anodizing colors...

I have a Coleman 1.5:1 3 bolt that I will be using (still sorting the rest of the car before I mess with quickener).

Mine is actually blue body, but it has steel shaft sticking out. Steering wheel end is the long shaft with the splined end going into the original column.

To those who have used them, how much additional steering effort do these quickeners require? I seem to see a lot of these for sale used.

I still haven't got mine yet, too many other fires to put out. Power steering is going to happen at the same time.

I had to remove my 2:1 quickener on the Audi 4k due to the additional steering effort. That said, I also added caster to the car - which by its self added significant steering effort.

If I want both, I'll have to change the power steering capabilities or go to a quick rack.

Vittorio muchachito, it's the VOLUME in the pump relief valve that gives the assistencia (not the pressure---everything seems to run around 75 bar or 1175psi or so).
Pressure is magic in fluids: same pressure on more area means more pounds or kilos, so seems bigger holes in the bypass part means more steering assist, TRY IT.

ok - a little research and what I've found is:

"Hydraulic power is defined as flow times pressure. The hydraulic power supplied by a pump:

Power = (P x Q) ÷ 600

where power is in kilowatts [kW], P pressure in bars, and Q is the flow in liters per minute. For example, a pump delivers 180 lit/min and the pressure equals 250 bar, therefore the power of the pump is 75 kW."

This says that Power can be increased by *either* increasing pressure *or* increasing flow.

Based on your findings that most pumps produce an avg *constant* pressure of 75bar - then yes, increasing flow should increase power in KW.

Awright! There's hope...time to find a 4k pump I can molest. I also have to find out if there's a restrictor in the high pressure line. There are currently higher priority items to handle - this may be a June activity.

Any real difference between the 4k/3b motors and the more common MK2 vw pump? i think just about all of the pumps on the two makes were the same around that time frame. might be nice to find a pump you can place where the AC compressor is/was and maybe a power steering cooler, you know, while your at it.

Power steering cooler is in place (Volvo piece, guess from who?)...

3b PS pumps have a 3rd opening for the brake booster - could be an upgrade if the vacuum assist doesn't work - they're quite a lot longer - but I don't know if they create more Kw. Chance are they do as they come from a much heavier car.
