Yeah probably like most place that actually do work, he hates email cause its endless and ever answer generates 5-8 questions..

You have all the time in the world. And you take years to do things, but want, like most guys in their 20s and 30s, instant answers and parts at the snap of a finger...

Truth is everything special takes time and takes communication. The place in Sweden lists cams but you want to bet if they actually have on their shelf a cam for what you need?

You taking the time to call me or Lawrence might give us a hint you really are going to follow thru with something--commit to A PLAN...a nailed down plan that makes sense.

I'll commit to a plan. Cat Cams sells a rally spec turbo hydraulic camshaft for 2WD YB engines. They also sell cams for the B234. They sell for $820. I bet they could make a replica YB cam for the Volvo head and all it would take is an email and a payment. It is not my preference but it is an option. The last email Lawrence was asking about flow of the head, gearing for the car, and other such things. Lots of numbers. Those are easier in an email.

I take alot of time accumulating parts. I spent two years buying parts. It's a good thing I threw $900 at my rear brakes through TCE or I may never have raced in 2008 and 2009. But once I had the parts I really only spent a few days assembling everything. That's how I work. I need fuel pumps, fuel filter, camshafts and bottom end parts and my car could start being reassembled. Oh and some rotors and to machine a carrier for the AP calipers in front but I may just keep those on the shelf for a later date or whatever. I am aiming for Ojibwe at the end of August. If I get laid off on August 1st as expected there will be no doubt that I could make Ojibwe. I'll probably cage my Impreza and might actually drive it to Ojibwe to compete with since it'll have no custom or weird things so probably more reliable and doesn't have to be towed. I'll have all the parts and plenty of time. Right now, I have no time outside of work that I want to spend doing car stuff. I have a shitty cell phone that I only hear about half of what is said in most conversations. I usually get home about 8 pm which is about enough time for us to do a little yard work maybe, relax a touch, and grab or make some dinner.
Yeah, I have alot of down time at work. I'm also one of the most productive. I also have produced things that have made the front page on national newspapers and resulted in getting emails from the White House. I have automated things that used to take days or weeks into taking afternoons. I've worked hard to get to where I am. If I could go to part time and be able to do car stuff part time I would be set. I want to have ten Open Light Subarus in Denver by the end of next year and three different rally sprint in a box event. Betcha a nickle I pull that off.

John. How many threads have been posted in history saying, "JVL - respond to my emails!"? I saw a new one this week. For the amount and length of posts you do on how ever many forums it amazes me how you insist on phone calls and ignoring emails.

The question as to if you can actually get the compression ratio is still unanswered. I know one car I was looking at where he was going for high compression and lower boost was only able to get to like 8.3:1 on the Volvo head. He had 9:1 with a stock head with long rods. Though I don't know if he was trying to get as high for the Volvo headed engine.

I still think turbocharged is the way to go. Especially if you want to do any of the GRC stuff again. A Volvo head can support well over 500 hp fairly easily. You could have a setup for 250-300 for rallying, change a few things, retune, and have 500+ hp for GRC. Like Burmeisters car where they first had 450+ but tune it down to 300ish for stage rally.

If I type a post full of numbers and details then LOTS of people see that, lots and lots and lots of LURKERS fucking off at work who then ALL can benefit from the time typing.
If I type an email, same time outlay and one person sees it.

Public planning leads to the greatest good for those majority who are mainly readers.

The number of Volvo, Xratty and rally peeps that I have maybe never, and who say "Long time lurker' or "been reading your stuff for years now and now..." who contact me always surprises me.
Clearly the smartest way to utilise the email thing is for the inquirer-er to post questions---follow that with a detailed email, THEN call with pen in hand and get answers.

Anybody recommend a source for the oil channel plugs?
Look like 3/8 X 18 socket head plugs.
McMaster? NAPA?

Also thinking alot about air control and closing up some of the gaps around the radiator and intercooler. Going to eliminate the p/s cooler for now and see if it's okay with just the extra capacity. I think I nearly doubled it with the reservoir. Or maybe move that cooler to somewhere like under the headlight instead of in front of radiator. Keeping cool would be cool.

I bought some nice closed cell "foam" stuff at the foam store for sealing up the intercooler and radiator gaps. My PS cooler is on the drivers side of the radiator bolted on a tab welded to the radiator support. Works good. We had zero temp problems at Idaho, and it was hot there! I am running the Volvo radiator, which is much larger that the Saab one. almost exactly the same size as the stock radiator.

I duct the air through the intercooler and rad. I use thin plastic sheet, from the art store if I remember, and velcro... made templates from cardboard, then cut the plastic. I duct form behind the bumper cover top the extremities of the rad (which is bigger than theh intecooler), both sides and to, bottom is alreday handled by the bumper cover. Works great, and because it's soft, when I stuff into something it doesn't go through the rad/intercooler. I left it off after a repair this summer and over heated for the first time ever.

-Martin.

Thats a neat system. I like parts that don't require tools to remove/install.

I think this is basically what I need for the oil channel plugs.

Look right?

Yes, it should be an NPT. As long as you verified it is 3/8-18.

Yeah cause my memory says its 1/4 NPT, same as Volvo and same as this one right over here------->.

Dare we ask what happened to the originals?

Grant, you get a bore brush? You DO want to clean those long passages and clean UP from the main line to the galleries. Even when things have been well tanked, you still want to use the brush, then blast with Brake-Clean, follow that with a plug of lint free 100% cotton rammed thru..
Cause any shit there goes directly to the main bearings as soon as you add oil and prime the motor.
You are planning on priming the thing aren't you.....????
