Guy is asking if I want a set of these that he has.

"So you do want the 0.438" lift cams? I'll set up the head for the other springs and maybe these solid buckets...

I would suggest these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Solid-lifter-kit-Volvo-16v-B204f-B234f-/170570431268?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item27b6ca3b24

I have a new set of those lifters that i was going to use for me but my motor isn't done and wont be for a while. they are so much lighter that the hyd ones and excellent for racing... "

Guess I'll go with his cam since I don't see other options out here and they seem close in spec to aftermarket rally cams I've been able to find. Not sure on the other part.

Get the solid lifters from Lawrence at Knox who had made sure the things are the correct hardness and finisah----there ARE solid lifters out there too soft--or not hard enough.

Further, take the STOCK gawddammit STOCK YB timing and talk to Lawrence Know at Knox Motorsport about doping some of the nice steel things that I slaved over a hot lathe making the cores for.

Support your local rally businesses, we're trying to make it so you don't HAVE TO go overseas to some unknown Norwegians and have what's called a "Norsk Historia"

John. You know more about cams and Lawrence and shit like that. Figure out profile, what it would cost to have Knox Motorsport make it from your core, look up what your core cost, add on some profit margin and tell me how much I need to make a check out for.

Or just figure out what you recommend and want to sell me for my bottom end. I can try one of your cams in the future easily enough once you get them done. I am shooting to have the engine complete and back in the car by the end of May and maybe even driveable by Idaho, though Ojibwe would be a more realistic goal.

No Grant, you already in the "what---ever" category. You want to spend obscene money for no good reason, that's your business.

Had to put those two quotes together. I have to admit, the $750 cost of the cam did make me blink for a second. Maybe cause I might not be working come Monday if the federal government shuts down... This Volvo head is getting a bit out of control but I'm excited about it more than any Ford head could have made me. smiling smiley

Any more details on the custom intake? I'm curious how big you're building the plenum, what shape or design you're using for it, and if the velocity stacks you made will be raised off the floor of the plenum... Also curious how big of a TB you'll run.

Been looking at this stuff for a while for my own car so curious what direction you chose.

Plenum will be whatever size Pete makes. 70 mm throttle body though.

Not sure on cam at this point. Was going to go with the solid lifter kit and cam from Knox but they're blank cores and haven't heard a response in about a week. Pete can finish the head now with stuff he has or I can have him ship the head to me and finish it with whatever parts. Then it'll be time to start thinking about the bottom end...

God damn, that's big. The Evo only has a 65mm one and flows enough to make ~700 crank hp without causing too much of a restriction.

Dave
p.s. Have I ever mentioned how much restrictors suck? winking smiley

70mm will turn that thing into a light switch. Why so big?

Bigger is, obviously, always better.

Sadly the plots are no longer there, but at the time, the dyno graphs didn't indicate anything like a light switch.

I went with 75mm for my 2.2L Turbo. It's a cheap experiement if nothing else - I can always use a smaller TB if needed. (Plus I scored a nice one cheap on ebay)

I also realise it's hardly proof positive, but it was better than most info on the subject.

Because that is what Pete is building it with.
Pretty easy to go smaller if desired.

Now I have to decide about cams. Pete's reground cams or wait a few months for some of the billet cores to become something other than pretty paper weights. Still waiting to hear back from Lawrence at Knox Motorsports...

What size intercooler piping you planning on running, because there's really not much reason to run a larger TB than the IC piping. Evo guys have found 2.5" doesn't become a power robber until you're over 800hp. Anything bigger and it just makes the motor a little bit less responsive.

Ever see Monster's IC piping? Tiny - like 2" or mabye even smaller. Assuming its all about velocity?
