Motor is assembled!

A huge thanks to New German Performance at www.ngpracing.com for always getting us the parts we need! And to Eric Langbein Racing for helping out with most of the fab work (motor mounts, etc)

Once this hits the stages in your hands, I expect an outcry to just simply outlaw you from rally, Josh!

Looks good. Nice shop floor tooo.....

Thanks Mark. You should drop by the shop sometime and check out the car. If I can spare 50+ hours, I could have it together and running :-)

Specs are pretty straight forward:

-Motor from a rolled 2001 mk4 Golf TDI (90hp)
-Rebuilt head by Justice Racing Engines (it had 220,000 miles of crud built up)
-VNT17/22 hybrid turbo that should make 26-28psi. The stock turbo is an even smaller VNT15
-EGR system deleted
-Intake manifold from an mk3 TDI to reveres the intake to the driver's side
-Front mount intercooler is in the works (I have an EVO8/9 intercooler here but it may be too large)
-Injectors & Nozzles are TBD still
-2.5" downpipe & exhaust no muffler or cat

The goal is 165-170hp and 330ft-lbs while keeping the EGTs below 1500 degrees F

Alright, a fellow VNT user! How are you planning on controlling the actuator, if you don't mind my asking?

Looks pretty slick! I still have to build a motor for my VNT.

Plan is to use the stock ECU from the 2001 TDI just reflashed by Rocketchip

We are probably going to be using mk3 GTI VR6 axles. Not sure how they will hold up but even the cheapo stock EMPI axles from 16v GTIs hold up just fine on our gasser so we hope not to have the driveshaft woes that so many VW people experience. I suspect that most broken axles are due to bad or insufficient motor-mounts or improper torquing of axle nuts so....

Anyway, the VR6 Axles seem to hold up to 3.2L Turbo cars making 500+hp so we should be fine so long as everything is locked down.

No us-and-them BS here, inquiring minds want to know. I just want to be the know it all at the dinner party when rally cars come up, which they never do, which is why I never go to dinner parties.

Do you plan to swap tp 5 lug wheels? i believe the VR6 axles have a different spline count etc.., you may want to look into Mk3 2.0 axles, they are a bit longer then the Mk2 stuff and beefier.

Yeah, we haven't sorted all that out yet. it really will come down to brakes and wheels. If we run 15" wheels and 11" brakes then we will probably go 5-bolt.

In the rear, I want to modify the rear beam to accept mk4 rear stubs & bearings which are significantly stronger than the mk2/mk3 stuff.
