Well been a while since I've been down making a lot of stuff but here's some recent stuff I've been doing on some projects.
Gustavo Garridos in Connecticut is finally getting some nice suspension for his Nissan Sentra SE-R ![]() Solved the rear top mount issue real easy buy using the nut plate from the front top mount, the gold thing and the stamped top from the rear and combined them--zero fab so time and dollars saved for everybody. Top mounts in front will be AE86 units or plain Corolla: ![]() Dave Kern in Colorado got some nice stuff just recently: ![]() And some special versions of the Sooooper bitchin JVAB Toyota Supra driveshaft adaptors. The original one's for mounting the Supra diff into an Xratty are 20mm wide and have 2 sets of bolt holes for using original US model CV joints with on bolt circle and 8mm bolts and a second bolt circle for the really BIG 2wd Cosworth sized CVs with 10mm. Daves BMW needed about 11mm thick versions with the Xratty bolt circle but M10 bolts so no problem (sorta ![]() ![]() Have the motor for James in Nebraska Ready for pan and cam belt and it'll be done. Its a Volvo B23 bottom end with a B234 head and steel billet cam cores I made under contract to Knox Motorsport in Richmond VA, it has my JVAB +15mm longer H beam rods and 15mm shorter CP Pistons and 11.6 or so domed pistons, lighter pistons and rods by about a pound per hole less reciprocating weight: ![]() Nice pistons, yumm yumm. ![]() Got 48mm ITBs: ![]() And some cams that promise some fun---peak hp at 7100rpm but good to 8000. Decent intake closing ABDC so reasonably nice compression for a good POP! and torque: ![]() He's getting modded Toyota pick-up 8" axle: ![]() Now just exhaust manifold and intake manifold and some chassi rail engine mounts. Locally Saab Man Garth in Portland got some Soooper bitchin struts old school style for his Cortina: (and you can see the major reason the Toyota axle is so nice: a 4.56 ratio for Dave Kern to use in his big 3,0 BMW which ain't a revver, and a 4,88 for James in Nebraska in the bad-ass 240 16v which will rev and BOTH for under $300) ![]() Made a tool and die one evening to press the ears for the struts faster and predictably: ![]() And made a full set of suspension for new crew Chris Caylor out in the wastelands of Eastern Warshington for his nice Sub-a-rat Le-gassy: ![]() And I did a set for newbie rally but long term racer Brianne Corn from the Great State of Texas but no piccies! The moment the paint was dry I packed 'em up and zoomed down to UPS to ship---got there less than 15 minutes before 8 o'clock closing but I got them shipped! She sold a car Monday, called me Tuesday and asked "Can you have 'em in my hand by next Tuesday?" did it!--But that's cause i just did another run of 22 tubes and William at TSS Fab had made me extra Subie ears for all the Volvos (4!!! 240s) who are getting "ear" type mounting......so I had extras 9Thanks William!!) Today its pack some Xratty suspenders bound for a LS2 Powered street car and jump on Kern and James diffs. Glad I'm not getting old gracefully...but I am slowing down, dayum. Edited 1 time(s). Thanks, Gene 9were i 'spossed to be making some Honja stuffs for youse guys?) Ya know what's funny? On some other forum some obnoxious Limbaugh ditto head who we both have known for 20+ years was ranting about the evil teachers in Wisconsin being filthy Commies and what a evil person I am living in a "hovel" and how he's never seen me do "anything productive in the 20 years he's known me".. Geeze got my first full time job in manufacturing when I was still 17, worked making---producing---things like spindles for huge centrifuges and impellers on lathes and mills for years, then as a welder made all kinds of things up to long ass gravel truck bodies, and then after a few years of fucking off racing full time---which admittedly was not making things---I spend 20+ years making crazy ass stuff for those beautiful old Saabs and doing extensive rebuilds on them----making them into basically rally cars wth street gearing and soundproofing (OK I didn't MAKE the cars so that ain't "productive" ![]() And honestly I've lost track of how many cars I've made suspension for now in North American rally---it's always panic mode and records take hind teat to getting the stuff shipped (like this stuff to Texas, I ain't joking when i said quite literally test the tackiness of the paint and blowing a hair drier on the stuff as i assembled the seats and lock rings and greased them up---box and packing stuff at the ready---and made it less than 10 minutes befor closing---typical! But it arrived by Tuesday!!!! And so did the studs) and then long distance phone "suspension tuning" when they install and set up the stuff.... I gotta wonder what "productive" means to the idle rich like this guy? Don't people know that "service" is not "producing"? Anyway I gotta go work on building up a Toyota pick up and a Supra diff... have fun! |

Any chance that 4.56 might be hidden in a diff in a box? ![]()

Awesome! I'm glad he finally called you up John. I was harping on him to call you years ago once I saw the suspension travel on the old Hotbits he used to run....Only 1" of rear compression travel before the bumpstops were hit at stock ride height...WTF!? I should stop by his shop and check out the progress on his newest car. ![]() |

Yeah, good idea! Maybe you could help transfer the bolt circle of the Toyota top mounts he's getting sent up from SR20 man Lee Wildman in PA. I suggested using a pice of paper cut out in the center---and pushing down on the paper to dent the paper---or cardboard, then punch the holes thru. Then use that as template to mark the shell and drill.. |

Thread is full of teh wins, imo.
Rally car is still with the cage builder. That said, I've got some time to get things ready for re-installation. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Seeing the litter buckets in those pictures reminds me. JVL, have you noticed how kitty litter comes in convenient storage tote buckets these days? LOL. We have three. I generally do not scoop. I toss. So we end up with about four new "totes" per month. My father in law loves them. ![]() Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

poor me, I'm down to just BooBooMaMa Kitty and Boo Boo Long Strump Kitty. We lost my beloved BooBoo Panda not long ago---and a couple of years ago BooBoos Tiger and Wolfie just disappeared. We do have a guest "Naughty Orange Kitty" that comes in late at night, but he's naughty. |

Here's the missing pic of the just-arrived Subaru struts. They arrived on Tuesday at 10am before the rally. We installed them that afternoon and left early Wednesday morning. BTW, both Brianne and I had a good laugh at the lime green Jolly Rancher wrapping paper.
