Nothing you described is unfixable. Question is how bad is it and will it really take more time and money than buying a new car and starting over from scratch? Hard to say without seeing it in person, but I doubt it.

that is why we are opting to just get another car. Hondas are common enough. the amount of time to remove the cage, considering how much needs redone, we might as well just start from scratch and do it correctly.

Dan,

What a mess! I am really sorry that this happened to you. It is really important to have a scrutineer check on the progress of a cage build every once in a while. If there is anything that I can do to help let me know.

Well being up in Alaska, full as it is with crazed religious gun-nuts, maybe you could arrange for one of them to take righteous revenge. 7.62 x 54mm type revenge. I think its spelled Kalashnikov

John, I think that might be a bit harsh smiling smiley. Thanks Robert, right now the only help I need is finding a car and maybe a sponsor or 10 to help pay for it grinning smiley. Looking for a 92+ civic hatch or maybe a CRX without a sun roof, no rust and minimal bodywork needed. If it's running and can be driven to a cage builder even better. Problem is I don't want to spend more then $1k for the car. I might just have to wait until I get back. I don't want to pay someone to strip the interior and sound deadening.

I don't think you're even hearing me. You've got two cage builders with at least 50 years of cage building experience between us trying to tell you that cage is probably fixable and you won't listen. The whole cage doesn't have to be removed. Nothing you've said or shown me makes me think that cage couldn't be brought into shape by someone who knows what they're doing for a lot less time and money than starting over with a whole new car and cage. Maybe it is that bad so I'll reserve a little bit of judgement since I haven't seen it in person but from what I've seen in the pics it's savable. John has a good point, don't get all hung up on it not being all beautiful like a Prodrive car. It's your first car, you're just gonna crash it anyway. The main this is that it's safe. You can make your next car the beautiful one. Consider the amount of money you'll spend all over again starting over and think about how many new rally tires that could buy.

Its going to be just fine! Remember, ugly rallycars are WAY faster, plus its just going to get uglier. Wait till you've destroyed this one before you build a second. Crazy Air Force freaks...

this was reviewed by one of of the license scrutineers for RA, or is it NASA? either way, i was there for the review and here is what the pictures dont really show that well.

1. the Pass. side A bar has a "S" bend in it at the roof before the bend that follows along the A pillar. totalling i believe four bends in the bar. Would have to completely redone from scratch.

2. Vast majority of the welds were not complete. Either missed or the didnt weld the all the way around. Some as few as 50%. This is mostly due bars being bent or cut tight to the body, but with no way to weld together. Many welds were also randomly dreadul with low penetration, ie "bird shit" welds.

3. roof was CUT off, then welded back on, poorly.

4. Cage is welded at the edges of the floor plates, and against the sills, to the main hoop and other A bar would have to be removed before the plates could be updated.

5. Gussets were not of legal length.

6. seats mounts were outright terrible. I almost dont even want to begin on that...

7. the roof bar on the drivers side doesnt line up to the bar extending through to the other side.

basically, most of the bars, would have to be replaced. Probably the main hoop and the drivers side A bar could be saved. The rest would need remade from scratch. It was all 1.75 as well and 1.5 would need to be going in for many of the bars. Welds were bad, the base plates were worse, the rear plates had no reinforcement for the tops of the struts. the rest of the chassis prep was bad, welding right over paint, tar, etc. the amount of time to remove everything to save a main hood just isnt worth it.

You really need to have a drink and relax.....unless Hurst condemned the cage it is my call. I am the ranking western regional tech advisor..not an event scrutineer.

Items 1,3,5 and 7 (hmmm...) are not remotely close to being deal breakers at this time. Some people need to quit making up their own rules.

Re: My Honduh

Ill get the pics and what we were told ASAP by the scrutineer just some things to keep in mind about the car

it is not a rally car it is infact being built for pavement only more specifically for pikes peak i dont think a 500 + hp FF car would do to good at rally lol

the entire cage was done in 1.75 making it heavier and giving us alot less space to work with inside the car

at this point the car is not just for racing solely it will need to look good as well in order for us to attract sponsorships and keep it on the road and because no one wants to spend this kind of money to have something that they are not proud of

the cage isnt the only thing that is wrong with the chassis ATM the same people also attempted to do some seam welding that turned into a disaster and will also all have to be ground down and redone

dont get me started on the roof or the seatmounts

anyway i hope this gives you a little more direction on what the overall goal of the car is
