My Honduh
February 26, 2011 12:51AM
Hi guys I just wanted to post up some pics of my cage in progress. It's just tacked in there now and I wanted to make sure everything looks legal before it gets fully welded. That being said I know we still need to do gussets. The roof came off because it had a sun roof. Anyway on to the pics.

Luckily enough the speakers fit so I'm keeping them for some start/finish line shenanigans smiling smiley.

The main purpose for this build is the local hill climbs and Pikes Peak 2012. I wanted to do Pikes Peak this year but will be deployed overseas(Air Force). I'll stick to codriving when it comes to rally for now. I wanted a rally legal cage because depending on how long the motor we're putting in this car lasts I may eventually try out some gravel. The motor I'll be using is a D16 with a turbo.

The roof reinforcements (V bars)need to be within 2 inches (100mm) of the junction. Looks like it might be a bit more than that.

Which is it Gene, 2 inches or 100mm? (as 2 inches is 50.8mm)..

After checking the FIA site it is definitely 100 mm. I'm having them measure the gap but it might be more then 100mm anyway. It's not a huge deal now since we have extra metal and the roof and windshield are still off.

100mm or 4 inches..sorry about the confusion. Its an old people thing....if it is within a small overage that is ok. If you can put a couple of windshield bar braces from the roof bar area to the A pilaar bars then it would be even better.

They will be adding those braces as well as a diagonal from the main hoop up.

Hey, add a tube from the base of main hoop up to the backstays where they hit the upper shock mounts. Not required by the rules but required by logic.

And, i mean it: why would I flip you shit about building a fwd car. I have only ever rallied fwd...

Well that's nothing to discuss.
It's just plain stupid.

See thread of 100 Acre Wood where the poor boys with their Honda now have 2 DNFs in a row with blown CVs, and the 20 year trial of tears of all the VW boys blowing up CVs and splined noses and junk on their Golves with half that poop...

If anybody had a real 200 bhp and used it in conjunction with a decent gearset with no glaring gaps, they'd be in the top 3 at "Nationals".

Why bother making problems making 300 when you can't utilise 2/3s of that?
It's just silly or trolling for a reaction, and the reaction is its stupid prima facia.

Well he did state it is a Tarmac hill climb car, so don't you think he might be able to utilize all that power?

I personally would not want to try and tame that beast!

Probably not.
Why do you think they developed awd cars for?
Torque was too much for 2 wheels as soon as they used a turbo.

Yeah tarmac only with the setup that's going in this car. If/when I blow this motor I may decide to throw a stock motor back in and convert it to a gravel car. As far as taming the beast goes I'm actually really looking forward to it. I drove a 350 hp 2000 civic hatch at a hill climb last year and had a blast. It had stock suspension and a horrible brake bias so it was definitely a handful but still a lot of fun.

Dan,

-One small suggestion: possibly move the driver-side A-pillar support bar 3" down from the top junction so you will have a little more room to get in and out. If you ever install a drvr seat with "helmet wings" you will have issues with egress-ingress.
-Axles: I have noticed that the issues are mostly with 88-91 civics? I use factory rebuilt axles with no issues so far.

I wish I knew that you wanted a hillclimb Honda. In case someone wants it, I have a spotless one that could be sold: 89 CRX with NASA timetrial cage. Short gears, Torsen, B17A(with Type R cams, 11:1, motor is being built now), big front brakes, 15x8 and 15X7 wheels. Koni, poly bushings, sphericals, Quaife quick rack, custom front subframe with heim-jointed track rods. EVERY mechanical piece is either new/rebuilt or has 30 minutes of running on it. 1985 lbs.

George
