It's alive!!

Dave tested the car at Dirtfish yesterday. Everything went well. Forrest Duplessis, Dave's instructor, said the car handled better and was easier to drive than the E30s at Team O'Neil. Still a host of details to finish (like skidplate, lol) but car is looking good. Been working so many hours that I haven't had time to upload any pictures but hopefully I can get some up before the rally.

Everything went better than expected
May 09, 2011 01:56AM
After several late nights and a couple all nighters Doug and I finally got the car ready to go for the rally. I finished up the last door panel at 9 am Friday and actually got a few winks in before towing down to Ocean Shores. Everything went smooth, just changed some tires around at service. Dave got started out slow but got more comfortable with the car as the weekend went on. By the final stage on Sunday he was quite competitive and set fastest 2wd time on the last stage. The clutch got a little slippy on Saturday, which was no real surprise. We changed it and installed the aluminum flywheel overnight. Only took 5 hours... Ugh, would rather do a Subaru clutch any day. We had to do the rally with the stock diff but the 3.90 will be ready for Oregon trail. All in all a successful and drama free debut.

Underbody and exhaust, etc

Here's a couple pics of the skidplate after the rally. Hardly got a scratch!

Doug Chase did a great job on the underbody protection and exhaust armour

Turner Motorsports headers and midsection on left, heavier stock pieces on right

Pedals and interior
May 09, 2011 02:43AM

Here's the pedal box finally installed and plumbed. Came up with a creative solution for the throttle cable using the cruise control cable, which was longer.

I'm going to have to make a plate to reinforce the top of the transmission tunnel as it's very thin and the handbrake moves too much when you use it.

Beautiful! What'd you use to attach the cross over tube shield? Looks like just some glue or something.

You should see this car in person. I'd park it at the end of the mall and walk to avoid door dings. Saawweeet build. It is the Kim K of cars. Terribly pretty and wicked nasty...

Steel pop rivets. The RTV is just to keep the dirt and water out.

I thought those looked like rivets. Just drilled through the caliper? Any compromise on strength by doing so?

Not drilled all the way through. It's just solid aluminum all around where I drilled, plenty of meat. Just 1/8th inch holes.
