Hmmmm...and there are now Dremel and Harbor Freight versions of the Fein MultiMaster (which is an excellent tool, just $texas$ to buy). I may have to do an experiment with my Dremel version to see how it REALLY does removing nasty undercoating splooge.

Hey John, IF it works (and that is a big IF), imagine getting 90% of the splooge off easily, then hitting the Death Ray on the last 10%? It might make getting the liquid nitrogen a bit less costly (only a fifth of Dewars instead of 1.75 liters?). It's worth somebody going to Harbor Fright and trying one of the knockoff tools...

I've used one of those before, they are pretty sweet. I could see it working that well, however, on "rumpled" areas, it could be a problem.

Misegadis grabbed the death ray last week to use on his 323GTX. He was quoted a total of $160 for a dewar including the dewar rental and delivery fees.

Interesting. Yesterday I used my air chisel to chip out all the seam sealer and sound insulation from the inside of my Golf. It took about two hours. I was shocked how easy it was after all of the horror stories that have been told.

That's the inside stuff, it's glued on, and its brittle.
It's the spray and glopped on rubberized undercoating and cars in the slightly snootier market segment that the Death Ray is the ne plus ultra, the alpha and omega, the mircle on 10th street for.
there is 100% thick covering of the wheel arches and the whole underside of Xratties, but for example the Frod Fucus looks like somebody walked by with a can and salpped a little dollop or 2 on as they strolled by, far different---that would be a flip of the coin if it was worth it...

It all depends.

Yeah, the inside stuff on VWs is easy to remove, but it also traps moisture and leads to rust holes in the floor.

I've got a couple holes I have to fix, trying to decide if it's worth it to remove all the rubberized crap underneath the car or just do enough to keep it from lighting up while welding in patch panels.

The underside of the VW looks like someone used a broom dipped in seam sealer. It still come off ok though.

BMW was covered in nastyness on the underside and the liquid nitrogen worked very well.

Evo had what looked like sprayed on oily coating which I don't think could've been frozen off. That car got the wire wheel treatment.

It won't sustain fire, but that shit makes some seriously nasty stumbling round headaches if you huff it too much.

He's right. Try to avoid breathing it as much as possible. It will make you feel awful.

The Fein is a great tool. It's $$$, but very nice. We considered carrying them, but don't have the customer base to support it. We picked up Rockwell instead. A nice tool too, but not _quite_ as fast as the Fein. Lower price stuff will vibrate much more slowly.

Just an FYI, the Mulitmaster is really nice for cutting through the urethane adhesive on windshields.
