I'm no brake expert, I just use them.

I've run porterfield R4, R4S, and R4-1.

R4 I found had to warm up quite a bit - not surprising as they are a full race pad. oved them in my stock car, but not my rally car - also I have no power boost so these took a LOT of effort.
R4S I found warmed up quicker, I run these on gravel and they last a long time. I'm not a LFB'er.
For Targa I wanted something that would wram up quick, but was more fade resistant than the R4S, so I tried the R4-1, I loved them... I had no noticable problems with initial bite, and no fade issues even on the in-town stages.

We Ran R4's, always have, gone through about six sets of them and the last set are pretty much done after three events....they do require warm up on the golf, but they have an awesome sweet spot when they get warm!

The DTC60's will have better bite but more uncontrolable.

Sooo, waht does 'more uncontrollable' mean, Paul? Do the pads burst out of the box and attack unsuspecting service crew members?

They dont modulate as well. The lockup treshold is pretty narrow and is harder to control than the R4. Still a decent pad though.

Anybody ever use Carbotechs?

I use them for asphalt, and like'em a lot. Just wondering how they fare in a rallye environment...

They're ok, wish I could say they're good because I'm friends with the owners. But its really only a club racing pad. They can make you whatever you want in a super quick turn around but their whole facilities is fairly small and compared to all the race shops in Mooresville and Concord. They're no more than a small job shop.

Cobalt is becoming really good and very consistent. For example several teams this weekend in Alabama were runnning it in both Grand Am and IRL.

Porterfield R4 . I had these for my disc front and drum rear. I had a good set of brembo discs that lasted me multiple rallies. than i got a cheap set of rotors that i destroyed really fast , (both wore them down quickly and warped them)

I've over heated my brakes quite a few times, but the braking bite / feel remained good but the rotors would turn colors (green, yellow, blue , purple) and warp . Change rotors keep pads and keep going.

I've only really compared these to EBC Green, Yellow, and what ever the stock STI brake pads are (cheapest brembo?) I prefer porterfield R4 to anything else i've tried.

I ran Porterfield R4 front and back on the golf. I recall getting some fade on only two stages over all the years I ran them. The fade was nice and predictable, the stopping distance got a bit longer but not a dramatic change.

I do not recall having any issues getting them warm. They gripped well and I did not run power assist. I did use a limiter for the rear brakes and used the larger Corrado disk/ calipers in the front.

I left foot brake on some stages and do not on others - brakes worked fine for both styles.

I like Cobalt Blues at the track (and they make really cool blue sparks when you bed them in), but holy cow do they eat rotors when cold.
