Well FIRST car starts the last stage at 8:30ish, that puts us low lifes on stage after 9:10 if there are no delays on the day. The woods get pretty dark before sunset. Sunset for Ocean Shores on Saturday is 8:24. I think that qualifies as a night stage.

Here is mine. William cut me the curved parts, they have slotted holes at the end that slide under 2 bolts on each side. The bar is 1" square tube I contoured to the bumper. The lights are cheap harbor freight lights with good quality Sylvania silver star bulbs (which cost more than the lights) I am happy with them. pointed to outside ones across to the other side for corner illumination.

Looks nice, but your "TOW" arrow points at the light bracket....I'd paint the real tow hooks orange or something just in case. You also need a front license plate if Washinton tagged and probably most other states. Not a tech issue btw.

I hadn't actually looked at a schedule. If they have 60 cars people will be running in the dark for sure and it may be raining, so forgetting my joke at JVLs age this should be an important project.

When I first started we used 2 KC Daylighters and 2 flood style from the local log truck supplier. The KCs lost a lot of bulbs. Vibration or too hot or just a long time ago and material issues...

Mount them higher than lower if possible. You can even partially stack them. Crowd 2 lower lites a little bit and then mount 2 pencils slightly above.

Tow hooks are orange now, and it has a license plate. That pic is quite old.

Thanks Gene.

My GhettoFabâ„¢ lightbar. Made from a '91 Escort Pony bumper, bolts up to my mazdogs also. The bumper is plastic, not metal.

This is the back view. Not really a fast/easy removal. Probably easier to actually swap bumpers, it's only 6 bolts.

basically, just a chunk of angle, welded to some chunks of square tubing. solid enough, but there IS some noticeable vibration, mostly because the plastic bumper is, well, plastic.

The first iteration of it. I used some KC's from Autozone with 100W bulbs in the center, and some cheapo Wal-mart 55W ones on the outsides.

After the first winter of IceX on lake winnebago, the KC's leaked and the reflective surface turned black. So, I got some cheap ($38 per pair) HID's, and did some slight modifications. got some Hella 500FF's from wal-mart, and put 35W HID's in them, and replaced the crappy KC's (they may have only been KC knockoffs, I can't remember now.) I took the outer two lights, and put 35W HIDs in there also. My alternator really liked having less than 600W of draw, and I got more light output too.

Here's a shot, before aiming, with just the 500FFs and the outer lights on, before I won the third set (which went into the bumpers) as a door prize at a club banquet.

The 500FF's have sort ofa "W" pattern that I'm not really impressed with, but they did alright this year. However, I'm going to be moving the W pattern lights to the outside, and use them for cornering, and I've got a set of regular 500s coming that I'm going to put 55w HID's in, and use for the pencil beams in front.

I'm really liking the different mounting ideas, because I'm sick of swapping this bumper from car to car if I need to.

While OpenSores is a nice midpoint for the rally it messes with the schedule. We'd all be as happy to be done and in the bar at sundown. I have seen some pretty neat nite rally film, especially if the cars have the right sound to set it up.

Cheap cameras just suck at getting good video at night.
So we are talking about a late finish on Saturday and a 7 am start Sunday. At least there will be plenty of time for beers and lies on Sunday night. Nothing is worse for film crew morale than no after party. smiling smiley

There should be a law requiring all rallies to have night stages! If the cameras don't work at night, get all your footgae during day-light and head to the bar early!

Nice....wait til that guy finds out about PCV pipe and glue. Reminds me of the old Accent we saw a while back with a paperbox hood scoop and cedar plank rear wing.

At my first rally sprint I saw a guy with an old escort (not the cool ones) that tried to go through tech with some iron pipes as a roll cage! (yes with some 90 fittings instead of bends, just like in an plumbing install). He also had some real nice 5 points harness made from regular car belts that his mother had sewn together!
