Ask your self why the door bar is there, and go with the stronger design that is a slight bit harder for ingress/egress. Rember, they are there to keep stuff from making it into the car when you hit something. Take it from a guy who has hit a tree hard, make the door bars as strong as you can.

Yes, my next car will have Nascar style door bars, and a sill bar.

One downside to the angled door bars, you have to get creative on the gussets.

I'm really digging my new nascar door bars...easy to get in and out and gives you a ton of space between the door bars and the seat.

just saying...

it hasn't done a rally yet...it will get a-pillars shortly.

when your car weighs 2050lbs ready to race, a couple extra bars ain't a big deal.

Yeah, I was going to ask about the lack of A pillar bars. That rallyX or stage rally ready with skid plates at 2050? God damn, my car is a fat turd...

Are you planning on changing the co-driver bars, too? Looks like they're still an X in that pic.

just stumbled across this:

I didn't notice at first that that was an X plus door bars.

Co-driver door will remain an X. I have a non-cut up passenger door for stage rally.

The car was 2300 with a full tank of gas and me sitting in it at GRC Colorado. It has a skid plate, though not as thick as I'd run in a rough gravel rally, but fine for events like North Nevada or Idaho. It also needs a co-driver seat and some other items that would increase the weight. BUT, there's also some more weight to shed in other areas. It's reasonable to assume the car will weigh 2150, wet and ready for stage rally.

The only reason I ask is that during my build I noticed the following line in the FIA regs:

"8.3.2.1.2 Doorbars : The design must be identical on both sides."

Not sure who you're getting logbooked with, or even if RA cares about that, since their "Nascar bars" clause is separate from the FIA regs.

Can the angled door bar join the front a pillar bar where it meets with the sill bar?

What? Our mk2 weighed in at 2150 at the RallyXs last year with full underbody, a 60lb front skidplate & frame.

2340 ready to rally with spares, muffler, 2 seats, spill, tools, jack, 3/4 tank of fuel & light pod on it....

I have seen some hefty VW out there but I don't know where you guys are managing to cram the extra weight as ours only has the 3 rear windows in plastic and cheap chinese bumpers that save weight.... Even has a full un-cut hood.
