2340 is still quite a bit heavier than 2050, in my book.

I think I was 2450 in my MKII, but I had full glass, stock battery, and stock bumper beam.

And here I whine how heavy and over built my Saab is at 2015lb with spares 5-6 gal gas and jack...

well that is up from 1945 lbs for a stocker.

Thank lucky stars for 5.45 final drive! (neeener neener!)

You can keep the 5.45...I drove Matt's car w/ a 4.8 and ran out of gear (on a tulip rally).

You can keep the 5.45...I drove Matt's car w/ a 4.8 and ran out of gear (on a tulip rally).

I'm on 62cm 15" tires, and mine is happy to rev--and make power ---past 7000. so I get 105mph top speed. That's enough for me....

What was defective on his that you ran out of gear, must be some fault?
4.88:1 is stock road car ratio for a Saab V4...

Something wrong with those VWs?

The traditional VWMS fianl gear was 5.08 with a 0.96 top (until they re-did everything with 4.25 as final and 1.16 top, same difference)
Mine is 5.45 with a 0.92 top
Both come out about right about 5:1

Maybe light weight and decent motor and short gearing so intermediate speeds are easy is a good thing..
