article 253 is pretty vague on wich bars can be 1.5 can anyone clarify what ones are allowed to be 1.5 I assume the door bars are 1.75 the reinforcement for the main hoop as well as the dash bar are all the rest allowed to be 1.5?

Hey Ken.
The main hoop, front half lateral supports (from main hoop along a-pillar to floor) and the connection between the two half laterals (the bar across the top of windshield) must all be 1.75 as well as one continuous door bar. On my car we did those, then a sill bar in 1.75. Door X and everything else was 1.5.
Id recommend doing the V bar for the roof that starts at the outer a-pillar junction and comes together at the middle of the main hoop. If you can get a little bend in those on the front part it will give a little more head room. Then you can continue the V from the middle of the main hoop back to the rear stays. Scott's Impreza is done like this and is up at our shop in North Denver if you want to come look and get some ideas anytime.

Of note, the RA DOM tube diameters are different from what is specified in FIA 253 for CDS. Tubes are in the RA rulebook.

FIA 253 is for CDS tubing which is a bit tough to find in the states. DOM is pretty standard here. RA increases the size of the 4 post cage and sill bar to compensate for the theoretical difference in strength between the two process' of making tubing.

Unless you are exactly 5 feet tall, you are going to have head clearance issues with the "half laterals" (tubes that run from the main hoop, along the pillar, down the windshield and to the floor). They really need to be touching the pillars at the top of the doors.

It's gonna put that tube just about dead centre of the top of your head, which by the time you put 1" of padding on, doesn't leave you much room to sit under.

Almost looks like they were placed where they were so they could be welded through the sunroof hole.

Would you say maybe to papaphrase.... POOR FIT. Get those tubes against the A pillar---ABOVE the doors and stay along the door all the way to main hoop.
Mo pain in ass to bend and weld but mo' better room for helmets and ya don't ding your head EVERY SINGLE TIME you enter the car 'BONG!!!!!!"

I struggled with this... the rules state the bars have to meet the main hoop at the roofline the roofline is at the top of the bends in the main hoop I was afraid if I did it diffrently it would not pass

FWIW I did try sitting in the seat with my helmet on and there was room for padding. we dropped the seat mounts as low as we could woithout touching the floorpan
