Quaifes don't have clutch packs, which is most of why they suck.

They're better than a bevel open diff, at least, but they're still open diffs.

Torsen diffs do provide much better forward bite than an open diff, but it kills your predictability.

here in my flat driveway, 4 inches snow on hard base, 4 studded tires= did't go no stinking forward bit at all. Stuck.

All you need to do to lose all power down the ground on one side is unweight it vigourously, or plant the wheel in inside line slime..

Well at times you need to ride your brakes lightly, if you have 1 tire in the air, or on wet ice.

I know I tested mine with 1 tire in the air, engage first and the tire just spun, i even was able to hop out and look at it. got back in, gently touched the brakes and i drove forward (with a front tire in the air!!!)

but you can definitely get stuck in a situation that a spool or clutch type LSD would pull you out of. i found one uphill i could almost climb but i would start to spin 1 tire, riding the brakes a bit caused both to spin, but then i was dragging the rear tires. i could Almost go up the hill but not quite. I'm fairly sure a spool would have had no problem in that same situation.

I've only driven 1 fwd with a torsen , but lots with an open front.

I haven't driven a clutch pack FWD, but I'd rate Torsen at maybe a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is an open diff and 10 is welded.

So, better, but it could be a LOT better.

A decent Salisbury or ZF or Gripper or Kazz or any of those type in a fwd car set with maybe 90-125 ft/lbs breakaway (depending on PS or manual steering) on your scale would be a 13-15......assuming decent alignment, matched inflation side to side.

It is simply cooler than sheeeeeut.
On tighter corners after high speed the ONE advantage that a clutch plate diff equipped FWD car has over a RWD is the ability to pitch the car stooooooopid sideways into a corner---before the corner and get WAY squared with drastically less chance of a loop out. The reason is way sideways those rear tires present a LONG side to direction of travel and they ARE SLOWING down the rear----meanwhile in Sweden*

Not too often we have that kind of corner but man it works good even if you're clumsy where in rwd car once the ass end is maybe 45* or more out
sloppy stomping on gas will make the rear accelerate faster than the front..
If you're lucky you loop out in the middle of the road.
