well the piccie is greenish but they sure are shiny:

10 steel flywheels for Volvo Redblock. Around 15 lbs.

With all this Intra-webs you'd think we could do the next run at 30 units.
And then the price would be even better.

Better than merely bitchin

Better title is, Who doesn't need a steel flywheel. I refrained from voting, because there was no: I like steel because the co-efficient of expansion remains constant across all associated components. Damn, makes me wish I had a Vulva.

I agree but 10 years and I can't convince Ford 2,3 guys they need steel---and I failed at convincing them to use the known good p.p. from KEP which would have made some things easier--making both Ford and Volvo same pressure plate (and we know we use the same gearbox so the same disc)

Well sitting where I'm going in a few minutes is a Duratec flywheel, and Bob out in CT is deep into hard negotiations on the for sale thread to do soem for Opel's old Cam In Head all iron motors...

Whatchoo got in mind that needs steel?

And maybe that's the easiest thing, just get a 240 for 2-4 hundred.
I have rods and big alloy hat, 11.75 x 1.25' disc kits for 15" wheels, all sorta stuff.

Stupid question, eh?

Probably getting ahead of myself anywho. Is this the super exclusive last run, or will there be others? Cause that Volvo takes forever to rev. I thought they put the clock in the tach spot as a lux item, I didnt realize they were serious.

Anything I make I intend it to be repeat runs. You sorta have to to get the value from all the running around time, drawing time, programming time.

I started a new thread on Turbobricks for sale section titled JVAB Sooooper Bitchin Steel flywheels Round 2. This time I'm shooting for minimum 20 so the price can come down a bit.

There's a great article about building a Volvo for dragracing done by the Swedish magazine Bilsport Magasin called "Turbocontainer" where the lead photo is a Volvo at the lights on the strip and a guy with a stopwatch and the caption for the photo says....
"Wrong unit of measure-----put away the stopwatch and pull out your calender"

(actually the fastest Volvo blocked drag car I know of is called "Hunchback racing" which is a PV and they've done like 7,2 sec and 180 mph in the 1/4 mile see;

Hmm, how many bacon strips is sub 20, and how many for more than 20 flywheels?

ya know, if'n I had the time and money right now, and wasn't enjoying the hell out of driving my bike this summer, my 747 would get one of those, and a bell housing, and a T5, and taco axles and supra diff....

John, speaking about Volvo stuff. How hard it is to get hold of a Volvo M45 tranny? Locally I have struck out, and even Craigslist and Ebay are dry.

I'm thinking of buying a Sellholm CR gearset after watching some in-car rally videos from a buddy on mine in Swede, and they are designed for the M45 case. They have bellhousing adapters for just about any damn block you can think of.

TIA,
Bob

Bob last I spoke to guys about boxes both Volvo and Opel guys were using Ford Type 9, the most common box for gearsets in the world. In USA only Merkur Xrattys got them, elsewhere all 5 speeds from ?? to '87 got Type 9.

I asked why and they all said cause gear kits cost 1/3 what any Opel or Volvo set cost.

That said all i know is Volvo boxes, case etc are lame.

I can ask folks that are volvo nuts what year/model...

But I know I'd go for the Ford box.

I tried years ago to do the T9 thing, was going to go with either a Quaife or 'gearboxman' gearset. Never found a donor box, at least not in New England. And finding a CIH adapter plate was next to impossible, even though I was told they were no biggie to get in Finland, Sweden, and the UK.

So I let it go, and just kept my ZF CR box.

Money is a bit more for the Volvo-based box, but I've been re-assured it shifts far better than the T9 (the Sellholm kit does anyway)....so smooth in fact it's an entirely streetable dogbox, like a bike. Good for over 350 hp as well. And they have a reasonably priced CIH adapter plate on the shelf.

Did a search and found one T9 on Craigslist for $200, and another on Ebay for $375. The killer is shipping, about $120.

Might be cheaper to just order the whole damn tranny from overseas and deal with the core charge. Still looking at $3100 for a basic gearbox, or about $4k with all the bells and whistles. Not including the shifter, the adapter, or shipping.

I do like the gearing on the T9 a tad better, but it's rated for 'only' 275 hp (whatever that means!). I expect to have over 220 ft lbs of torque when I'm done.

Bob, we'ze oughtter be able to find ya one for $50-100 or Ill throw a bunch parts I have laying around in a box and send them....
The beauty is the Xratty boys all want T5s cause 'they're weak" and "blow up if you rev it to 4000 and side step the clutch"...

of course, of the 5 I've poked around in, all 5 had been run for years with low oil level, seriously low and had bearing failures, so obviously the box is weak---right?

Sniff around for the adaptorplatta a bit. It may save you a couple thousand bucks. My preferred gearkits come from Tran-X rather than Quaiffe---supplied Opel kits in years past and there was never a problem...

You stinkin of dog engagement? Synchro works really nice when the ratios are close, slide right in.
