Only a coupla hours longer than doing a clutch in an Toiletta All-Trac Sillycar. At least it'll be cooled down by time you get to it. Gawddam Cossies are so easy that you need nuke-you-lar powerplant gloves and then good rally mechs could change them in about 11 minutes from switch off to start up... That can't be good using gloves and all... ![]() John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! acquired a stock 1.8 flywheel for 25 bucks. the 1.6 and 1.8 essentially interchange as long as the matching clutch and pressure plate is used. The 1.8 is slightly larger in diameter however.

John! I'm itching for some pictures of the green splendorous boingers!
also aquired the Flying miata clutch kit, and some various seals i felt like replacing for assurance. Also ordered the CNC brake handbrake, (the one with replacement master). Progress! Had to order the clevis for the handbrake, but that came in yesterday. Also had to order the rear main seal and oil pan gasket which came in today as well. So ideally tonight, i should have the engine suspended in the engine bay, ready to make the mounts.
I had to have a friend make a sleeve for the steering quickener adapters. Essentially, the column portion I am splicing into is .7" and the adapter ID is .75" so in the interest of having a good fit, i needed a spacer to center it before welding. I also do not like how the oil return was run so that will be replaced as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First Rally: 2010 First RallyX: 2004 (a bunch) Driver (0), Co-Driver (7) Organizer (3), Volunteer (3) Cars Built (2.5), Engines Blown (2) Cages Built (0) # of rotations (3.5) Last Updated, Apr 9, 2023 |

So tonight i replace the rear main seal, finished cleaning the oil pan, attached the flying miata clutch kit and the 1.8 flywheel and positioned the engine for the engine mounts. With that, bring the non-rotary disdain.
Tinkering with the level and spacing for about an hour before i got it perfect. I will have to pull the oil pan (i didnt make the gasket for a reason) to tap for the oil return. the way it was done by the previous miata engine owner was silly, wrapping around the entire engine. I also assembled the CNC handbrake and mounted that. Welded a front support bracket due to the angle. Ill let the pictures speak for the rest. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First Rally: 2010 First RallyX: 2004 (a bunch) Driver (0), Co-Driver (7) Organizer (3), Volunteer (3) Cars Built (2.5), Engines Blown (2) Cages Built (0) # of rotations (3.5) Last Updated, Apr 9, 2023 |

thanks!
I am using a Canon 5d (older model) with a 50mm 1.8 lens. The "nifty fifty". About 100 off Amazon. But since the camera is full frame, it comes out very well. so as it turns out, rx7s do not have a 15mm strut bearing. So i am enacting plan B which consists of me using subaru strut mounts and adapting the chassis to suit.

it doesnt look to bad honestly, its just a touch larger. 17mm looks about right. I was gonna about approx 2mm larger than the coilover. should be getting my hands on the mounts tomorrow

Subaru tops are on the coilovers. I still need to make a top plate with the subaru pattern for the rx7. I also might have to adjust the ears as a little material hits the hubs.
Also started the engine mounts. Passenger side is coming along nice. Since there are no considerations there. The driver's side however, i am dealing with making the mount and the steering things not occupy the same space. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First Rally: 2010 First RallyX: 2004 (a bunch) Driver (0), Co-Driver (7) Organizer (3), Volunteer (3) Cars Built (2.5), Engines Blown (2) Cages Built (0) # of rotations (3.5) Last Updated, Apr 9, 2023 |
