Correct audi MC1 10vt rod bearing?
July 31, 2011 11:11PM
Clevite Rod bearing CB-1426 P

The circumference of the bearing is way large. but other than length seems to fit just fine Did I get the wrong bearing in the right box?

When inserting the bearing into the rod, If I line up one end the other sticks out about an 1/8". Both top and bottom.

Google shows it's the right part number, but could they really have screwed up 5 different bearings? What am I doing wrong here?

To answer your questions in order:
1. Very possible, happens daily in the auto business.
2. Yes, see 1 ^^ Misboxed, renumbered, cataloged incorrectly, made wrong etc.

Teeee heee!

Oh yeah, SAVE THE BOX. look at the bearing, the rod and the journal, not "on-line", except to refer to ACL or even better---cause it has cross references right on the "block of info" is the Israeli "King Bearings"

So here is yesterdays lowdown on auto parts....

1985 big block Chevy plug wires, ordered for HEI cap and 90* ends on the plugs for headers. Catalog is wrong, wires came for points dist cap. Summit Racing

2003 Pasat, frt wheel bearing and hub, both wrong. Bearing plain wrong, hub mis-boxed. AutoZone

1983 F-150 radiator and hoses. Wrong lower hose. Auto Plus

There was one more but I can't remember what it was tonite....2 man shop, 2 cars downed in service bays overnite, one pushed outside. Any idea how much this costs me yearly in lost production?? It's ridiculous. Happens everywhere. Independant stores, chain stores, dealerships no difference all have massive screw ups.

Shirley there is a better way.

Well, does anyone have a reccomended bearing supplier. I purchased these a month or two ago and can't find the receipt anywhere.

Edit, Perhaps a better question, is John do you reccomend the company above or did the just happen to have a handy dandy size guide.

BTW the response from the audi forum: "use OEM bearings"
Shoulda guessed that one.

There's the Clevite numbers, and all the info..... hope this helps.
I'd figure what rod journal size, double check the rods are what thety're spossed to be, find the Clevite number then Google "Shopping" search it.

You also have the Glacier and Glyco numbers and can look on the old rod bearing which of course you didn't dare throw away.

HMMM after further inspection, I have an engine with the code 054 103 021
Not the traditional 034 engine code.
Serves me right for not looking.

After googleing for a bit, I could only find one other instance of this code and the response the poster got was it's incorrect. HMMMMM what to do. I've found appropriate bearings - order them and run em?

rod diam ~48.98

old bearing
1.49 thick
roughly 49 in diam

These are shit calipers btw I wouldn't count on the measurements for anything other than rough guesses

I checked ETKA - and your part number doesn't show up. The MC engines should be in the 034 100 family of part numbers.

On the AAN motor the bearings were flush with connecting rod mating surfaces.

You can also try EFI Express (are you east or west coast?) - but Rock Auto ought to do the trick just fine...

I've got the following part numbers for connecting rods on the MC1:
056 105 701
056 105 707 (0.25 u.s.)
056 105 713 (0.5 u.s.)
056 105 719 (0.75 u.s.)
