Then I'd say just get a 2.2 in there and get to some events, or alternatively go for the full open class now and just stick to NRS events until you've accumulated coefficients. Not too hard as we have no local events anyhow. CHCA is a must, especially for a new driver. Great practice for notes for codrivers too.
Idaho, Prescott, High Desert Trails,, Tennessee, RWV, Gorman Ridge for NRS are not too far.
Canadian events like Big White, Rocky Mountain, and Kananaskis are also options.
100AW, North Nevada, Oregon, and Olympus are the only RA events within the same distance to Colorado.
Any local events organized by me will be NRS Rallysprints so you'd be fine there.

Dave's convinced me so I've decided I'm going to replace some interior bits of my Impreza and sell it and buy myself a 325 or 328 for a daily and eventual rally build.

Holy crap, yet another sign the apocalypse is upon us!

For the OP, just don't get carried away with a detailed motor build right now. Getting all the remaining parts of the car done will likely cost you 2x what you think it will. If you can stick a stock motor in there for cheap to get going, go with that.

Get it driveable and go have fun. For your first season don't be overly concerned about the power, don't waste your $$ on anti-lag and the latest fancy turbo. There's more time to be had fine tuning the nut behind the wheel, and that's cheaper. Just get out there and get as much seat time as you can - CORE rocks!

Going to look at a 96 328i with manual for $1500 this afternoon hopefully. 190 hp and 210 lb ft stock! Cage, skid plates, shocks and go play.
I'm getting more people sold on the idea of the $10k rally car.

My suggestion would be to look into making a sweet 2.5 NA. Troy's daily (Suba Performance) up until a few weeks ago was a built 2.5 making well over 200 hp. Open Light is the place to be.
What happened to the Wagon? That motor was sweet!

Someone pulled out in front of him and totaled it. Took out the engine most likely too.
