I am slowly starting my 93' Audi 90 2.8 Quattro rally build. Just finished testing my new purchase at the WDCR SCCA rallycross at Summit Point motorsports park. I competed in the stock awd class and did ok but had a lot of trouble with getting front end traction, which I found odd cuz there is a lot of weight on the nose, now a lot of that can be attributed to regular old street tires, but my shocks are definitely dead. I really feel like I am looking for a suspension that is fairly stiff and gives me the ability to tune my dampening and ride height like I had in my drift car. I have done weeks of searching on the internet and have found nothing in the way of suspension parts especially coilovers, so please help me! does anyone out there know someone who can make a custom set for my Raudi Rally car.

www.motorgeek.com all your audi motoring needs. Some of the threads nowadays are worthless dribble, but search the site. There are all sorts of projects to drool over, and a couple really cool race car builds as well.
For playing in the dirt yank the front sway bar, will make the front end push a lot less. The b3/b4 chassis will be a bit funner once you manage to swing the ass around a bit. Toss the car into the turn aggressively with a bit of a stab at the brake then back on the throttle hard. Timing is everything. JVAB has made some suspension for another forum member. He and I talked about doing a set for my car, but life's finances keep getting in the way. If you do decide to do a set keep me posted, I might be able to have my arm twisted in the spring. For a while the Tim O'neil rally school was using Bilstein HD's and Cadillac springs on their training cars. Others have used this for Grass'o'cross with good success. Your strut housings can also be extended to use the bigger URS4 struts along with a diy coilover setup. I'm also not a big fan of that v6 you have. Good motor in its time for a street car. No aftermarket support, terrible mpg's etc etc. The audi is definitely not the cheapest rally car option. Also there is a read this NOOB thread that is going to be brought up by the next post or two |

Bilstein HDs and stockish springs is a pretty darn good grass-o-cross suspension IMO. Works exceptionally well on my Civic. Unless you're trying to be a 'nationally competitive' grassocrosser (and let's face it, the audi 90 is going to be a poor choice for a 'nationally competitive' awd grassocross car), adjustibility is overrated. Get some decent shocks (don't know if there are off-the-shelf HDs for your car), and focus on having fun, not twiddling knobs (nttawwt). |

Thanks guys for all the knowledge u just dropped on me. I have a few new questions, but first let let you all know what my plans are for this car. I am building this car into an open light stage rally car, my beginner sled so that I can earn my pro license and I know it's not the cheapest car to work on, or the fastest, but its what I got so I'm gonna build it.
Ok now to my questions, this name JVAB keeps popping up when you guys are talking about coilovers, I cant seem to find a website for them, so how do I talk to them? Also I don't do any grass-o-cross because the DC region does all of their rallyX event out at Summit point where they have 2 large and very rutted out dirt courses and 1 large gravel course full of shale rock so I'm wondering, with how heavy my car is, will Bilstein HD's and stockish height springs handle it? |

Can't believe nobody else has said anything about this yet. You PNW'ers not have your coffee yet? LOL -Just because you have a car to go rally doesn't mean you should rally that car (rally-x is just fine, go have a blast). -You're going to dump a$6-10k into any car to get it stage rally ready. -How much $$ do you plan to dedicate to rallying each year once you're a pro? -What car do you plan to race when you turn pro? What you may find is that picking a car that you can race now and upgrade as time/$ permits may just be more fun in the long run. As an owner of a fast AWD car I can tell you without a doubt that a well setup RWD car is every bit as much fun and 1/5 the cost. I'd imagine a good FWD car can be had for the same 1/5 the cost...but IMO, its not quite as much fun since you're not chasing the tail everywhere. Since nobody makes a living running stage rallies in the US, having fun and being part of some good competition is the name of the game. Dave |

Really? You would think that Subaru buying the limit up to 2.7L in Open would've also done the same for OL. What about all those poor guys with tired 2.5L motors that "need" to be bored & stroked? :p Dave |

I see a difference between reading the rules while still practicing some discretion that has been accepted by fellow competitors vs. a fanatical adherence to the letter of the code to the nth degree (cone dodger style). Open light is a much better class for me that Production/CRS-GT was. ![]() The rule from the RA 2011 rulebook: "10.2.A.10 Open Light Class: Vehicles must be AWD, normally-aspirated and derived from models sold globally in minimum quantities of 1000. The maximum displacement is 2650cc for overhead cam engines and 3313cc for pushrod engines." I rounded down to 2.5L, the extra displacement is enough for a rehoning/overbore, but not enough for meaningful stroking (that's what she said). But yeah, I think a 2.8L audi engine is going to be a tough sell to fellow competitors in OL. |

They don't have to be awd......you just check the box when you enter. If it was a requirement , what happens when somebody breaks an axle or a diff and then they're 3 or 2 1/2 wheel drive? Disqualified? ![]() John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember!
