Removing the GT air dam before the flat bed tow truck arrives.

Compression in the skinny rod 745 B230FT is 120 psi and there is oil in the coolant overflow bottle.
The afternoon is spent in search of the elusive 93 + B 230 FT turbo engine.

The secret sauce.

Get It Hot.

Shrink it and temper it.

Crack It Yes It Moves.!

Drill it at 600 rpm with the secret sauce.

Port it.

Then File It.

Work the inside transitions.

Round the corner a bit.

And there it be.

The head's off; it's worse than we thought.

Blew up the rings and piston on the #4 Cylinder...

Good thing I've got a 94 turbo short block handy!

You really can't rush perfection!

Got the 242 up on jack stands in my garage, where I've got a nice setup with my engine hoist, tools and stereo.

I've got the car in my own space, so I can work on it at my leisure and not rush anything this time...

There was about 200k worth of oil leakage in the car, since before I did my swap in October, and it's only gotten worse, thanks to that nasty '87 B230FT I put in. We all knew that motor wasn't going to last, and that it'd at least need some fresh seals. But we threw it in, as is, anyways, just for the learning experience of converting a N/A K-Jet car to turbo LH 2.2. Well that part's over, so now it's just a matter of swapping engines and doing it the right way and cleanly.

Got to the bottom of the melted piston riddle...the leads on my ballast resistor pack were worn and frayed, and one came entirely apart, so I guess we now know why that one injector went lean...it had no power!

Gone through a couple gallons of kerosene, spraying down the new motor, my engine bay and the transmission. Engine looks amazing and the transmission's just getting started. Got some more brushing to do in the engine bay, but we're getting there. Yes, that oil pan is still getting the kerosene treatment.

See for yourself...

I'm sooooo looking forward to having a clean, not oily car, that runs strong!

This one's getting resealed before it goes in, and hopefully it doesn't come out for a long, long time.

With the motor clean, and in anticipation of the serviced M46 transmission, I continued resealing, and configuring my squirter block; I figure it best to have as much done before the transmission and mounts arrive, so it'll be a quick, painless process to finish it.

Pics with alternator, and accessory brackets mounted...

Still waiting on parts and hunting for an elbow for my oil pressure sender...

Fitted the proper, 240 Turbo oil cooler sandwich plate and hard lines, with hanger bracket off the alternator bracket...which reminds me, I've yet to install the o-ring for the sandwich plate....glad I'm typing this out!!!

I've got a clean oil cooler and the '83 stainless braided lines, clean and ready...just working on a hanging bracket solution, as my NPR intercooler is a bit of a space hog!

Work continues...

Torqued the flywheel, crank pulley and installed the clutch and pressure plate. All that was really left was to set the motor in place....

Looks really nice, with a thoroughly scrubbed engine bay and engine assembly...

A clean, reclocked 16t from a s70....a beautiful thing!

That's really a bigger turbo!

Another piece to the puzzle and another riddle solved...

As some of you very well know, the VDO 10-Bar oil pressure sender, for use with the R-Sport Cluster, is quite big. When installed on the B21F, it mated by way of a 45-degree angle adapter, with the standard 1/8" NPT threads from the sender to the adapter, and the same from the adapter to the block.

The B230's however, have an M14x1.5 threaded oil pressure sender, so I sourced a M14x1.5 to 1/8" NPT adapter, to thread into the block and scored a brand new 45-degree angle adapter in the 1/8" NPT thread. Just have to install it all, now.

Tomorrow evening will mark a week of having Honey-D back in healthy running condition.

I've driven her lightly through the week, being careful to break her back in gently.

With the new thermostat, cooling has been a non issue and the cooling system holds water perfectly. Oiling system stays contained as well...this car is bone dry underneath!

There are no funky colorings to the fluids, so visually, the head gasket appears to be in fine order. I've advanced timing to 15-degrees, and it seems pretty happy there, and my 16t fills the NPR intercooler amazingly well and efficiently, for 7.5lbs boost. I'm really glad I had the M46 serviced while it was out...shifting from it has never felt so smooth and the overdrive has never engaged so well.

Moar Boost after Moar Stage Zero!

Next up will be exhaust, silicone cooling, vacuum and intake hoses and diesel motor mounts. I'm considering a fresh timing belt and pulley, before I plug in that SAAB APC system and crank it up to 1.0 BAR.

I GOTST MY BABY BAAACCCCCKKKKK...

A beautiful spring day in Marin County it's been today; a perfect day for jaunt through the well regarded twisties of Mt. Tamalpais.

I packed the dog and a camera and had an excellent morning after my wake-up triple shot espresso.

Damn...Shot Down @ Redwood's/

Was on my way to a lil Kegger in The City, when my alternator tensioner bolt snapped in half, leaving the belts squealing and the battery uncharged. Limped her to Redwoods to see just how bad it was.

Pics to follow, but we got the other half of the bolt out of the block, in no time...mended the tensioner and pressed the bushing back in properly and got her back together. Now the Bosch 100 alternator makes good power...holding a steady 12+ v when running.

Missed the party, so I was sober enough to drive home and had a lil fun in the park...

German Invasion, but with a Swedish twist...

The Three Stooges...

Got together for a little meeting this afternoon...

Just wish the M46 could have held in longer...I guess I boosted too hard, while in O/D, as I've fried the conical clutch, leaving me with a Ghetto M45...
