Plumbing Fuel Line in Cabin, Al or steel?

i need to replace the fuel lines on the rx7, and i plan to run them inside the car per the rules specified. I plan on using tubing 3/8" but just not sure if i should opt for aluminum or stainless steel? Aluminum is about half the cost and i suppose, insignificantly lighter, might be easy to bend as well. The stainless is twice the price (50 dollars for 20') but more durable.

Thoughts?

What's wrong with plain steel?

Stainless is a bitch to flare. Plain steel is what you want.

i actually didnt plan see plain steel on summitracing so it hadnt crossed my mind. ill look for that option.

I bought the steel line for the brake and the fuel lines in my car at my local Carquest store, as in walk in, shake the hand of the knowledgable parts man that helps me find what i need... get it? It sure is nice to be able to order up 10 different leaf spring bushings and only pay for the one you need.

Plain ol steel.
Then paint it, ptoblem solved.
Get the hard line maybe NAPA but avoid them like the plague for the Weatherhead fittings.
Fitting I usually pay maybe 89 centavos they might charge 4+ bucks, utterly stupid.
Get your common fittings at a good hydraulic place.

You can get steel line in 3/8 or 1/2 inch at many parts stores. They may call it fuel or hydraulic line rather than brake line due to the size. It is easily formable with a hand bender, beer bottle or what is laying around.

Run it on the inside of the cage legs and fasten it securely.

Just curious as I've seen both.
Any disadvantage (other than cost) to doing it all in soft lines?

Along the tunnel is inside of the cage legs...

Some cars have the lines along the sill (Subaru) and I've seen guys put the cage legs inside of the lines. This allows a nasty tree slap to possibly pinch or fracture the lines.

Flexable, like rubber? or steel braided?

Which smells beautiful if you are using race gas. Ahh. That lovely smell of dirt, oil and race gas that you can only get from a well used and aging rally car.

We had an ex Nick Moore Toyota FX-16 that he ran the FIA Olympus with. I turned it back into a street car. He had steel braid under the carpet and man tdid that thing stink if closed up for a couple days. Steel lines are the only way to go.

Not all of them. Mine doesnt stink at all. I dont remember what the exact type of line was anymore but I remember asking specifically about this. Call up Scott @ Heintz Performance in Concord they have the proper stuff at cut throat prices.

So plain ole steel then eh? I suppose it should be more durable than the aluminum.
