Have you thought about doing 5 lug convertion from mada 3 then you get great brake options and bigger pinch for front strut you could pass a 40mm bottom down threw and get another 1" for travel.

Later Focus is same pinch diameter.

Welcome. Have you read the rule book yet? FIA article 253 obn cage construction?

I can't answer your cage questions, as I am no expert, but someone will soon enough. Whats the end goal? G2 car? G5 car with a drivers waiver?

Tacoma is way too far for me to go help, and I am in the middle of my own build (car #2), and helping with another car. Talk of a mini meetup next wednesday to watch WRC Mexico..

Any word on the mini meet?

Ok ok, good point

Hey Chris came by today and we crawled around under the front end some.
We've sorta penciled in this Saturday to come over and get out big hunks of cardboard and start snipping up some templates for the sump guard dealios..
Might also snip up some of the patterns for the little bump we need to make for the rear inner wheel housing for spring clearance..

Might be a good time to pop over. He's a good guy and you can see his cage and how the boxes are made.

Didya measure the tube OD yet?

Depending on the times saturday I might be able to make it. I'm moving into my new house this weekend and will be for the next few weeks. But Maybe I can get some time to come over.

My phone is 253-549-3054 if you want to text me or call me

Actually that is less of a reason to do it. Since the Focus brake options are already good for rally and easily modified to fit whatever brakes you want.

So the only advantage of converting to a mazda 5 lug part is 5 lug which has no inherent advantage over the 4 lug that came on the focus. Other than it would be unique and more work.

Andrew is absolutely right. Better to get on the stages without all the bells and whistles, and then upgrade over time than to start building, never finish, and never get on the stages, which seems to be a disease on this site.

Look at Jari here who built an E36 BMW he purchased on November 8th of last year and had in on the stages for 100AW this February, even taking a break to fly home to Finland to compete in the Arctic Rally. Sure it needs some upgrades, but it is "good enough" to get him first in production and beat many many more powerful and higher end cars.

K.I.S.S. Think "Good Enough".

P.S. "Good Enough" does not mean crappy.

"Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. You moved to Grindelwald to drive the cog train to Murren. Can you repeat that?" - The Brain

Think he's done it before Genosse Herr Advokat?

Don't worry, I try and keep the boys thinking "pretty damn good is pretty damn good".

(the worry is that for newb-u-lar dudes and dudettes, they can and do expend just as much time making a construction or detail that is a piece of shit, and ugly and crap design, as something that is well thought out, stronger and maybe even eases service- all in the name of "that's the way so-and so(---who may be a latte sippin metro-sexual fixie riding urban hipster who doesn't know jack shit----) said everybody does it."winking smiley

Ya know... I used to really enjoy track cycling on fixies until I moved out here. Nothing like racing with no brakes (on purpose) Now.. well I doubt I'll ever ride one again after seeing this hipsters...

hijack over..

Out of curiosity, how would you determine that its not 4130 when inspecting the cage?

there's a machine called a PMI (positive material identification) gun. it contains a small radioactive source and when it is reflected of a metallic surface, the chemical composition of the metal is displayed on a digital screen

what could go wrong?
