Said local driver is famous locally for stirring up things and waiting to report an issue until it'll give maximum benefit, so it wasn't a stretch to believe the rumor based on the timing of things and the change the results netted. As I stated, it was something I'd heard thru the grapevine, so I'll defer to your version of things. ![]() Dave |

Off topic but why would a SP car need rear door wiring if the wiring of the car is open in SP? Just wondering because I had no plan of leaving useless wires in my doors.

By local Dave means our Colorado local not PNW local. I have to say, I heard the same thing as Dave while at the event, though slightly different. Not that it was a protest but rather that said driver's mother told officials that the VT car had gutted rear doors so it was added to inspection list. Irregardless. ![]() The BEST thing you could do right now is get in touch with Mike Hurst with all those cage details and ask him if they'll accept it. From my experience with Custom Cages and their kits, it's not likely that the tubes are 1.75X0.095 or larger where needed. Grant Hughes |

Mirra happened at Olympus, my version is correct . It was detailed after the event on both SS and RAs website at the time.
As I said earlier if the cage is T-45 and out of FIA homolgation then no good for RA. If it is CDS and meets 253 then will be ok. The MSA certificate is meaningless without the FIA cert. There are cages for sale that will be of no use to people here, so beware. |

OK, so I think this was answered as "If it was installed BEFORE the FIA date is up, it's grandfathered in" BUT, if you have a car, like say, a 95 impreza, and you get a custom cages 95 spec cage, and install it... is that a no go for us?
BUT, if you found a 95 impreza with a custom cages cage installed in say, 97, it would be legal? Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

http://rally-america.com/events/2009/Olympus/results/penalties/ http://rally-america.com/events/2009/Oregon/results/penalties/ I'm younger Gene. ![]() I wasn't at Olympus but I was at Oregon Trail. Olympus however was when he rolled the car and I had to put the video at 200% speed to make it not totally boring to watch him crab walking his crumpled Subaru to the end of the stage. I don't doubt your version or question your version. I guess the version I heard involves HOW rear doors made it onto the list of things to inspect. It may just be that the family is well known for tactics such as this and they directly benefited so fingers were pointed. Of course, it doesn't matter as VSC screwed up no matter which way you look at it. Grant Hughes |

Correct, that's my understanding. That's why I couldn't take a cage that was homologated in 1995 for a 1995 car and put it in a build I was attempting to do in 2009...holy sh!t I started in 2009 and still haven't raced it. Dave |

F'n kids...it was at OT, over in the corner of the cow pasture ![]() Yes Vermont made a mistake no doubt about it. Hurst usually asks what we want to check. He always does the fuel. We try different things , window motors was an easy one to see in said cow pasture and we figured we'd trip someone, not Mirra tho. It was a surprise and my first post inspection catch. Kinda cool, kinda not. Anybody buying a T-45 cage , new or used, installed or not should check before laying down the cash. Grandfathering is a tricky thing at times, it is a courtesy you might say, not a guaranteed right. Back in the day there were a few cars with FIA aluminum cages (Mr.Clark will remember the year no doubt) in the states. One day we got a tech bulletin and SCCA would no longer allow those cars to compete. Seems like there is an Audi somewhere around here that was a victum of that decision. |

Gene I appreciate all your input. - Same goes to the rest of you.
On the plus side I will be building my cage locally with the help of a very generous local rallyist. We have pipe, a good welder, a shop to work in with all the necessary goodies, someone who is experienced with cages, and me to screw things up. No more internet cage business. IF, and a big if, at all possible I would like this cage done in under 2 weeks. We've even managed to time it with a week that my wife and kids will be out of town visiting my in-laws. I'll take tons of photos, and in advance I appreciate all the help, and critiquing ![]() I am so stoked right now. Feels like cloud nine. |

Back at the 1987 Olympus WRC rally there was a rental Subaru Loyale that rolled down a hillside on the stage I was working. It had an aluminum cage. It broke. Right where the side lateral connected to the main hoop it broke clean off. That's why aluminum cages were banned. |
