Have lined up the I-mark (aka Kadett C) through a bud who just lost his garage space. Want to put in a 2.4 ecotec bottom end with 2.2 head and max it normally aspirated within reason. Aisin wide ratio ar-5 (gm ma5) is the readily available tranny that bolts up (also found in variations in Toyotas and isuzus). Also aisin Ay6 may work.

Is the 2.2L head that much better than the 2.4L. Why not just run a 2.4L all the way?
I am assuming you have read this http://gmtunersource.com/racertech/ecotec-build-book |

AJ - also in the Chevy Colorado truck so oodles of the around.
Andrew - because the 2.4 head is vvt and the 2.2 is not. Seen the gm book - thanks. "Talk about drugs. Those ratios make me feel better about the BMW ratios...
4.23, 2.52, 1.66, 1.22, 1.00 At least they are a decent 1-4. The GM ones would be good if you have a rear end that you can get a numerically higher number final drive. Give you a trailer loading first also and manageable 2-5 at 2.26, 1.51, 1.00, 0.73. Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/25/2012 11:08AM by NoCoast. |

I was looking at ratios like this...
5 speed 3, 4 1.51, 1.00 6 speed 3, 4, 5 1.49, 1.19, 1.00 Just adding a gear change between the two... Rev drop 3-4 with the 5 speed is 7000 to about 4600. Rev drop 3-4 with 6 speed is 7000 to 5600 Then 4-5 with 6 speed is 7000 to 5900 So I guess the question is, does the car pull hard enough from 4600 to 5900 to negate the added gear change. So really comes down to how peaky the motor is and/or how expensive the 6 speed is compared to the 5 speed. Grant Hughes |

Oooooooooooo. I think that's one that my favorite 5,1:1 ratio is available.. That'd work good in a 2nd thru 5th box. Veeeery good.. A new bellhousing for a Solstice/Sky is a hair under $400, and you can use Toyota W-whatever transmissions. That's NEW, as in plonking down your money at a dealership. Here's what you do: Get cleaned up all respectable like and mozey down to the dealer and say "Gee, golly, I SHOOOOOORE like the looks of that baby, I's itchin to buy one but I wanna take 'er for a little test drive" You hop in and be calm and check what's behind ---maybe another one of the target car---if you're lucky--- but it in reverse. Stall once, fire it up then FLOOR THE FAWKER, dump clutch and slam into car 2. HARD, Lurch forward and smash into another car. Start screaming "I had my foot mashed hard on the brakes!!! OOoooooowwwww my neck, my neck!!" And splain you din't like the upholstery color anyway. Have a confederate follow the tow truck to the scrapper when they total out the cars.. Go to junk yard and pull bellhousing and pay $15 each. Now you have a spare, too.
