Hey, I could just use the third brake light that came on the Golf. I'm pretty sure it was LED too, and it's definitely not going back in the hatch. |

Why don't you just turn the lights on in your garage? ![]() |

Because I'm never out there. :p Actually looks like it's a row of incandescent bulbs, with a red lens. |

As far as map lights... I have the flexible, tunnel mount fancy one. White light and has never bothered me driving.
This last weekend at Ojibwe it failed...4 minutes before the start of the first real night stage. I panicked. Codriver improvised quickly, and we ziptied his head lamp to the windshield bar with red light. Worked awesome! Some would say better than most. I don't know WHAT we would have done if he hadn't brought the headlamp. Rally on! Owner, Driver, Head Mechanic, and Janitor at Tower City Race Team, headquartered near L'Anse. Michigan. I really like a head lamp mounted to the visor of my helmet. The Tikka gives different intensity levels and red or white light. The batteries easily last for longer than the event. The best part is that the light is always with you.

I've tried--in vain---to convince people to have a fuse in an instantly reachable place--MARKED for the odo and Map light--separate!---and spare fuse and spare bulb taped with low tack tape to some instantly reachable spot--tape folded uner at one end do its a convenient tab to just pull.. I usually have a headlamp around my neck for night stages, just in case the map light fails on stage or in case we have to deal with a problem with the car at some point.
I'd advocate breakers for map light and odo, but I really haven't had fuse issues with either. Often, I've found that replacing a blown fuse results in another blown fuse shortly after. Still, having clearly marked breakers or fuses and having spares - of all the fuses - in the car, and accessible, is definitely a good idea. Small, inexpensive ones. The ones i got I got back in the early 1980s from the beloved and long lamented Boeing surplus..for pennies. Ya know, this is YET another area that there's a coolio idea and then ya get a buncha galoots saying (prancing and mincing it up like this: but say OOOh well I use circuit breakers dontch know OoooooOOOO!" So a guy could get these for $4 each http://www.waytekwire.com/wps/portal/en/products?pSearch=circuit%20breaker&psType=P&pg=8 But if you think of it this is yet another area to piss away $40-60 for what the miserable old fuse does...and an increase in price of well orders of magnitude. One trip to the junk yard and you can fill a shoe box with fuses for nuthin... But, circuit breakers are cooooool.. And gotta say it: In before "If you can't afford $60 for circuit breakers, you can't afford to rally."
