Ideas for a lift are air shocks in the rear and bigger springs and shocks up front with the largest tires that will fit.
Now to me that seems like a poor mans lift but if that's all thats needed, then fine . I have looked at a long travel kit for a side by side atv that looked interesting. |

But Rich,
If its the early rear suspension still... any lift is gonna do this! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads3/Spitfire+jacking+11090328641.jpg And having recently tried to drive a rally car with wheels that looked like that... it ain't gonna be a good handlin' machine... |

The pictured MKII clearly is suffering 'wheel tuck' which was a flaw in the early designs. The fix for that is a traverse strongback that limits the drop. Air shocks could raise the rear as in your photo, and that would help getting to pavement. Once on the road, just lower the shocks back to desired height. |

Actually, we're incredibly similar. But check out what that does to magnets.
Ah, but we're going to disagree on this one. You see, ever since a certain someone was found in a hotel closet with a bag on his head, a belt around his neck, and a nasty stain that glows under UV light at his feet, I stopped calling anyone "grasshopper." That's almost as low as inviting fans of the Fast & Furious movies to a barbeque. Too soon. |
Yep. That's why I said a while back that you have to lower it all if you're going to lift that car. |

Rally cars run on gravel sometimes are. Sports cars are not rally cars. Last time anybody tried it was Factory efforts from Austin Healy and mercedes with 3.0 OHC motors--and they were massacreed to death my a little car with an 850cc motor built by a friend of mine. And how could they do Carrera Pananericana? because it is a 100% asphalt fun event on pretty nice wide highways. When I say fun, I mean even though some spend scads of money to do it, it is not a serious event. \ And any person with a pair of eyes knows those POS vile things did that and would not dare suggest anything since the entire concept is defective... Hell I've been an eager accomplice in the Mighty Justy project, but this.. No thank you..it's another, WTF is the point when there are so many decent cars to pound to death that are "pretty damn good"? Thanks guys for lending your ear. Where there is a will there is a way.
I have a new rebiuld 84 toyota 4wd pu. I lifted it 3 1/2" and its a woods killer. Its also ugly as the day is long but is very nice where it counts. I have tinkered with the idea of bolting the spit body on it. My problem there is just letting go. I have around $7000 into each vehicle. |
Use google scholar and look up "sunk cost behavior." There are some new tricks to fight against the thought process that is ruining your approach to all this. Just don't bother with any of the papers published in Psychological Science. That journal is full of crap. |
