Same as previous guys, just have to keep winding the spring sets down till it sits right. Of course if the gearbox is out and the var isn't on the ground at real weight, who knows then. Yes, I'm actively prepping for rally of course now I realize I can sweep too. Today I put new valve springs and my mean ass (no longer produced) ford racing camshafts, took about 5 hours. I retarded the exhaust slightly to see what would happen, anyone have some fun adjustment guessing before I dyno it?
First thing I found out upon starting the old girl up with the new cams was that I need to find; yet again, another larger throttle body. I'm also going to do a coil pack upgrade so that hopefully the ingition can keep up. Slight suspension work today although it was mostly moving underbody protection, I'm hoping that I can find a more permanent solution for the actual protection using old gm hoods. Johns stuff now fits a little better in the rear but I think I'm going to angle them in and cut out the fender wells so that the suspension has more movement like we do with our rock krawlers. More news tomorrow, then about a week before the next update. Gotta keep the lady happy and my grades up Foard Cleveland Blue Branch Rally Team http://www.performancefriction.com |

And John point me in the direction of a massive jvab decal to distract people from seeing that the dip on the roof of the car is getting thin!

Curious to see pics and how/why you are angling the rear coilovers in the back....
Are these rear coilover's pin mount rears or the other style(on the top)? ................................................. ..................... Support your Local North American Rally Forum!! Angling them back slightly allows for more movement, they are pins at the top.

I'm sure you read the engravings on the oil seal end of those cams, but just to make sure; the cam with the blue paint on it is supposed to be in the intake or exhaust position? What stage are those? 3? If so they're about equal to a crower 2. Should feel them though!

Well the car won't start now so maybe not, I'm in need of an obd2 scantool, until then I'm lost.

FIRST! Look. get a fresh flashlight andf slowly and methodically LOOK for anything left un hooked up, unplugged. Tuning cars to a standstill is something everybody does so REMAIN CALM Double check: cam timing..and that spark is present---thos are the only things you fucked with. Post the cam specs....if its a funner cam it'll want some spark and fuel.. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Possibly. The intake cam will have a protrusion almost at the end of the non oil seal end which triggers what I believe is the cam position sensor (black thing that pokes through the outside of the head on the intake side and non oil seal side). If that sensor works the same way as the crank position sensor in terms of it's control, the engine will turn over but will not fire injectors or coils. You will still get pressurized fuel to the rail though.
Check that this protrusion is on that cam. If not, it's a quick cam swap and lash reset. Also check all sensor harnesses etc after this. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/03/2014 06:43PM by JuggernautMotorsports. |

Also you need to tell us what stage they are! 1 2 or 3.
The respective part numbers are: 223-0010 223-0012 223-0014 A quick google with the word Crane in front works well. Crane made these under license/contract for Ford Racing but still make them as their own. You'll see the engraving as CR 223-00whatever stage. Also what cam gears are those? Esslinger? Alright so my problem was the cam position sensor, they are stage three, I took the valve cover off and retimed the cams and set them back to 0 on the gears. Car started right up and I walked behind to see if the exhaust was weird and turned to see a massive cloud of smoke at the front of the car, I'd left the oil cap off! Put it back on and everything was fine. Car is running well, idle is fine but I will have to get a larger throttle body and a better coil pack.
Tomorrow the skid plate goes on in the morning, car will be on stage for practice by the afternoon. Foard Cleveland Blue Branch Rally Team http://www.performancefriction.com |

Painted the valve cover red as well to make it look prettier, if you want to see any videos of the car and the build they're on my Facebook, should have some good stage footage tomorrow if everything feels right in the car.

Glad to hear it was that simple! Any lope at idle from the cams? There shouldn't be too much.
Is that the stock throttle body I see? It's actually not worth more than a couple-few hp but the throttle response sure is nice! As for coilpack, the stock one is good but if you want an aftermarket one it won't hurt. Forgot to ask if you did the required uprated valvesprings and retainers as required with these cams? Theres a little lope but it maintains idle.
It is the stock throttle body, at least I think its the stock throttle body I never got the original build sheet for the car. I did do the uprated valve springs and retainers, I don't know if I posted when I picked all of that stuff up but I got my fly wheel, cams, and cam gears from the same guy in Georgia. Then hunted down valve springs, retainers, and the very important +10hp svt spoiler in Arizona. Then back to Georgia for good poly suspension bushings. Picked up the lot for under $600 ![]() ![]() Foard Cleveland Blue Branch Rally Team http://www.performancefriction.com |
