i know that you can never be safe enough, but would the Corbeau Clubman be sufficent as a seat? I got a possible deal on two of them, but i want to see if its worth getting and not a waste of my money.

How big are you? Would you be able to sit in them before purchasing?

If I recall correctly the Clubman is a steel tube and foam seat, dunno what that means insofar as suitability.

I've heard they run narrow though.

I can't find it on the current list of FIA approved seats if that is of importance to you. R-A still accepts non-FIA seats as I understand (have not looked at the 2008 rules); not accepted by NASA RallySport at this time. I dunno about CARS.

I bought a set of momo starts (Fia legal)for roughly 600 shipped brand new off of ebay and am very pleased with em. However some do not like the amount of padding on them.

Those seats are legal for RA for '08 but..RA is waiting for the new FIA standard to be released, we don't know when that will happen. You can get the Momos for around $600, we have the new Sparco Sprint V, also about $600 a pair and FIA approved. Very comfy, steel frame , decent padding. I believe Corbeau lost their FIA cert due to changing the design after it was certified. I'd try to get FIA seats even if a tad more expensive. You don't want the frame breaking...

Just looking at the pic... I'd be concerned about the mounting application.

Even fixed seats have to meet certain criteria, I think (how about some of you more experienced and rule savy type guys chime in on this ?)

When i mounted my sparco corsa's.. I considered the bolt sheer vs. tensile strength. I believe some level of "stretch" in the bolt is preferential.

IMO seat mounting is as important as belt mounting and judging by the seat slide adjustment and cd changed behing the seat in the pic... that car doesn't need to pass any inspections.

Hey Gene,

My 'approved FIA seat lists' don't go back that many years, but I never have seen the Corbeau Clubman on the lists. Corbeau IS back on the lists with revised models of the 4 seat models that lost their certification.

In actual fact, these seats, FIA certified or not, do an excellent job. The Momo Starts are at a good price point; Sparco has the new Sprint 5 which is a tube fraem with side mounts (that is new and I like it) and the TEC is ther low end fiberglass. (AND I don't sell them or have them so this is not a selfishly motivated endorsement!)

Don't expect the any high degree of comfort nor exquisite support all aroudn on an inexpensive seat. But, when on a budget, you gotta make compromises.

Mark B.

I don't remember if the Clubman was ever FIA cert or not. They did have an entry level affordable seat that lost it's cert during the fuss a few years ago. They were being advertised for sale after the fact with stickers. However the FIA said the loss of cert was retroctive...Corbeau has a reputation for making a comfortable seat however. Still if it's used for rally get the FIA tag just because. I see Momo is saying the are redesigning all their seats...we got the Sprint 5 right after Sparco's big redesign last year, took a couple months to get the new ones. Slooowww boat from Italy I guess...

it looks like the debate over this seat has swayed me to not obtain it. Ill look for something better and that is properly certified.

One advantage of tube frame seats is that the deterioration of a fiberglass shell does not take place.

And I've also heard a steel framed seat can be "track adjusted" with a portapower for Gp5 hips...although I'm not recommending it...nor have ever done it...

You are probably thinking of the Corbeau Forza.

I had these until they lost their FIA certification then switched to the Momo acropolis evo ( a nice seat and realatively easy on the budget).

Forza!! That's the one. We had some lined up until the problem. Went with OMP Eco , nice padding but very narrow. The Sparco 5 s are much better than the OMP for us.
