Volvo 1030 axles

if i were working on this project i would redrill the front to match the toyota rear rather than redrill the rear to match the volvo front

You are correct, yet no one seems to believed me when I tell them you can get a 8" and a 5 lug. Some 2wd V6 trucks came with a 2wd width, 8" 3rd members and 5 lugs. I owned one.

2wd trucks with 4-speeds were 8" rears. 5-speed trucks were 7.5". I'm talking about '84-'88 with 22r engines.

I do know that I got mine from a late 80s/early 90s 2wd v6 automatic, but came with a 4 cyl 3rd. The 2wd widths are 56", which is right in that volvo range right?

I hit my head when pulling the axle out and forgot it. So I may as well of not done it.

it sounds like money better spent with the toyota axle
even the 7.5" toyota axle is hard to kill

but for quick turn around the stock axle is a way to go

toyota axle with new aftermarket brackets
toyota vans with an auto trans had a 7.5" with a 4.30 gear

Some info on the 2wd Toyota 8in: The axles are near impossible to find if you ever bend one. A good friend bent a flange from sliding his truck into a curb on a slick, icy morning. 2 years later he finally found some decent used axles.

The 7.5 rear end would probably be okay, but I couldn't find too many LSD options for them. Gears are available though.

A local kid with the monster tire Toy hit a pipe protecting the gas island at a filling station, snapped that axle right off at the backing plate. Low speed but solid hit. I couldn't believe it. Housing was bent so we replaced it all.

I'll have to dig up the part number (again) , but the front R&P ends up being ~ 230 on subaru-parts.com and most local dealerships will price match if you print out price sheet.

and you can pick up a used 4.44 R&P from a pick and pull. for about $80-90, or $40-45 on a half off day (there are several every year)

and bingo $300 for your 4.44 parts. labor is the sticky wicket, i've got free labor if i wait . which is how i ended up with all the right parts, sitting in a box for my last 5 rallies .. doh

Yeah. Not too many diff options for the 7.5. And they have a shit-load of tiny springs..
And really the difference is only a little bit from Dana 30's 7.2" size to 7.5" ...and, how big are the half shafts?

First you suggest overkill, then you bring up Pfffft little difference...

You know there ARE solid reasons why I suggest things ....I don't make anything by this ---except for the little tabs for links and shock mounts but thats pennies

You just like that said "oh 4.1 works fine"..

Maybe for your rally car.....but this kid is bright enough to do that math and understands that pissing away 14% is going to have a direct effect on how quick the car accelerates...

Do you understand gearing?
14% is a lot, especially if it costs nothing..
